I hope this topic would go under this section if not forgive me.....

But i wanted to discuss all the varieties of strains out there and what ppl find the best and what they dont....also i dunno if any1 else has wondered this but just how did marijuana manage to become so potent that we know have plants with THC of 20%+......like i mean where were all the strains found etc that today we have these hybrids, i think its amazing how marijuana has evolved to this level

Peace hope for feed back

Breeders and the media lead people to believe that we are just now creating super high potency strains. That simply isn't the case. Cannabis has been cultivated for at least 5,000 years and during that time used for medicine, spiritual use, and surely recreational use. There is no doubt that people have been improving the cannabis they cultivate during that time as well. Not only that, but cannabis plants benefit from having additional trichomes and THC because they act as protection against UV B rays. So that favorable trait should be passed down anyway, although humans have sped that up.

Hybridization started in the 70's. There are a lot of rumours about the origin, but the most credible, in my opinion, is that as cannabis became more popular more and more varieties arrived. As cultivation information got passed around people became aware of indicas and sativas and their differences in yield, stature, and flowering time. Supposedly a Mexican gang who cultivated cannabis and distributed it through an American motorcycle gang. This gang hired college educated horticulturalists to start creating hybrids.

This information about breeding got passed around the US and people began to grow a lot more crops. Early breeders were basically sorting through land race bag seed and breeding the plants they liked the best, and there in lies the truth. All of our hybridized strains today are the result of land race bag seed.

If you have specific questions about strains we could discuss that, but this is a very broad topic and we have an entire forum for strain discussion.

and to quickly answer your question, all over the world there are different climates and the local native pot varies from region to region. sativas tend to grow at the equator and produce an "up" or head high, and other places' local stuff is indica and produces a body stone. some climates are dry and some are moist and all of this contributes to how the pot has adapted to grow from place to place, including affecting potency, and also makes these native strains very unique. breeders have been basically mixing all of these rare strains from all over the world together to create all this fancy designer pot through selective breeding and whatnot, but pure landrace strains can be pretty special.

Wow well that was quite an interesting read thanks man...never new that much about it all. I think im going to do some research myself and then maybe add a more specific discussion in the section u just mentioned
