Strawberry Shortcake - Dark Horse Genetics

Genetics:
Juliet (J3 cut) x Strawberry Diesel. A mostly Sativa strain (at least, the pheno I grew).
This strain doesn't come in Feminised form (I believe, this is true for all Dark Horse Genetics strains).
Oddly, the Dark Horse Genetics site lists this as an Indica. But mine grew buds that are pure rocket shaped sativa style. I emailed the company once (through their website) about which way the strain leans. Sadly they never contacted me.
Also, all the websites that sell the Strawberry Shortcake seeds, describe it as a ‘mostly Sativa’ strain. Mine was/is (I keep a dwarfed mother plant)

FLOWERING INDOOR
Claim: 9-10 Weeks (65-72 days)
My reality: 12.5 weeks (86 days from first sign of pistils) for good ripeness. Could go longer, if you like hunting more amber.

Nutes:
Biobizz Fishmix.
Shogun Bloom.
Plant Magic Biosilicon.
Plant Magic Oldtimer granules (mycorrhizal fungi and 20 strains of beneficial bacteria).
Soluble sulphur of potash and brown sugar (both used in flower for taste+smell - simulates Terminator and Big Bud nutes :)

Notes on nutes:
Plant Magic Biosilicon - drastically raises PH of water. It must be heavily compensated for with PH down.

Soluble sulphur of potash is the only other nutrient I use which changes the PH level of feed water. It drops the PH, not a great deal but needs to be accounted for when PH-ing water. This nute is fantastic for taste and smell (imo).

Medium:
Grown in both soil and coco. Strain was happy in either (no deficiencies).

Grown indoor:
An easy to grow strain, stretches in flower but filled in all the stretch with bud. Average+ feeder.
Trains easily, reacts well to topping and other methods.
No issue with mildew. Seems quite resistant (from my experience). However, later in flower (due to bud size) you must watch out for bud rot. Make sure to keep RH below 50% (35% was good) and you will be fine.
Never a Nana seen! Strain doesn’t ever chuck out nanas in flower (from my experience). Not being feminised helps this too.

Smell in flower:
Sweet, with diesel fuel overtones. Smell does not 'travel' too far. Bump into the plants ..the smell will chase you!

Smell, dried:
Wine gums/jolly ranchers/fruit pastils, with a good whiff of diesel fuel on top.
The smell really jumps out when the buds are opened (or squeezed). In the bag, the smell is more subdued (though still present).

Smoke/Taste:
Nice, not the usual earthy/herbal Sativa taste. More sweet/berry, with diesel fuel notes. Sweeter on the inhale with more diesel on the exhale.
A sativa with a modern/worked, sweet, fuel, taste profile. And has some body high in there too (a more subtle body stone then an Indica would give).

High:
Reasonably strong for a Sativa (guessing: 18+ percent). No red eye or dry mouth.
You can be active smoking this.
Not all ’head high’, there is some body high in there too. A nice daytime smoke.
But, smoke enough, and it will send you to the land of nod.

Final Impressions:
Sweet and fuel smells in flower (pretty stealthy though, smell does not travel far ..unless the plant is disturbed).
Very easy to grow and has a large yield (making the longer flower time acceptable)
Lot and lots of trichomes. Apparently this strain is used in extract making (to mix with other strains) to improve extract quality.
From experience, this makes a nice Charas too (plants survive a 'mild' Charas rolling session and went on to harvest happily ..just, a little bruised).

Recommended for both Sativa lovers (as a change from the norm). And, those wanting to try a Sativa grow (with a strain that is easy to manage and rewards with a bumper crop). Seems to be 'off the radar' of strains to grow (there are so many about).
But, I think everyone should give it a try. A strain that sits in my current Mother plant collection.

That's was interesting.
Thank you.

very interesting. i've been waiting for Dark Horse to release more Hulkamania seeds. Almost everything Dark Horse seems to sell out quickly. On January 2nd, I will try to pick up a pack of Rocky Mountain Strawberries.
Rocky Mountain Strawberries does look interesting. I agree about their catalog.
I'd really like to grow a bunch of their strains ..So little time, so many strains ;)

Couldn't help myself, picked up both Rocky Mtn Strawberries and The UnderCaker. The only difference between The UnderCaker and what's not even shown on the website at all anymore (what I've been waiting for), Hulkamania, is that Hulkamania uses BB#3 (the slightly higher THC OG Kush pheno) and The UnderCaker uses BB #5 (the Strawberry Diesel-dominant pheno) (look for Randy Savage references, haha). Perhaps there's trademark infringement with "Hulkamania," Hogan wants a cut. Doesn't matter, the key is that The UnderCaker's genetics include Zkittlez x Do-Si-Dos crossed with something other than Gelato (or maybe the Gelatos I've had yield better than they taste).

Next from Dark Horse, I want to try their Grape Smash (Grape Cola x Bitch Slap). It's sold out (and I'm not pressed to replace Grape Ape and 5 Alive just yet). Waiting could get me an F2, that's cool.

Nah, I tried BB#3 from 2 seed banks, Crop Kings has a 2.0 (BB #3 backcrossed with a mother Strawberry Diesel). Noticed the 2.0 has a more compact structure but requires longer vegging than the so-called-but-not-really Grower's Choice BB #3, which grows wilder. So, no direct comparison.

Yes, I'll look for your posts (and take notes)!

elev8's Gorilla Cookies are the only other "name brand" seeds I've had. Really like them, but flavor isn't overwhelming.

There is a demand for flavor.... Vaping concentrates raised expectations.

Dark Horse dude turns 40 this week, and is offering a bunch of stuff from his vault, Hulkamania being one. Dropping on Saturday at theseedbazaar

I recently went back for Grape Cobbler. So, unless Bruce Banner #3 variant, Hulkamania, is available, I'm probably good with the BB #5 pheno in The UnderCaker (they're otherwise the same). And BB#3's in Rocky Mtn. Strawberries.

Will have to see what comes out of the vault! Galactus, Roid Rage, and Conjugal Visit would be interesting. Haha -- the names, the names.
