the infamous bagseed!

Yeah, I did it, grew seeds out of a bag.....
I'm growing them at a buddies house, so i only get to check on them once every 2 days sometimes.
They're plenty watered, but something unusual is happening.
One of the plants is still developing new /growing larger white pistils, but some of them are starting to turn orange/red...
Also, this one plant seems to be making a TON of small leaves on the kolas instead of bud, but the others aren't.
What would cause the growth of a lot of little leaves? the leaf/bud ratio is about even now, but they are extremely small, trichome covered leaves.
Also, I dont have a microscope, so is there a general rule of thumb that the naked eye can use to judge the ripeness based on pistols changing color?!
Thanks for your contribution to this horrible newbie.

It's only August. Depending on where you are at, your probably looking late september or up until late october.

I assume your growing outside?
Congrats its flowering! Those growth shoots are normal. And those little leaves are perfectly normal too, dont worry about it.
Usually the rule of thumb for harvesting is when the 60%-75% pistils turn amber.

I'm growing indoors under a 400 watt hps light.
The light is about 2 feet from the plants, and there isnt excessive heat.
You say when the pistils turn amber?
Maybe I'm confused.... Are the pistols the same thing as trichomes? The little "sugar" pieces all over the leaves and buds?
I thought the pistils were the 1/4" long white hairs that turned red to form the hairs on the bud....
Are you saying about 75 percent of these "hairs" should be red before I harvest?
The hairs are actually starting to turn orange, and dry up a little bit. This is normal?

Yep! You got it. And its normal for the hairs to turn. They will produce new ones in a while.
And its 50% amber trics when looking at trics.
