The squirrels must be stopped! [container gardening]

Hello Folks!

The dang squirrels have no place to dig holes in the dirt other than my containers. I need them to give up on my containers.

Semi urban... city-suburb. The surrounding ground either has a house on it, grass, sidewalk, blacktop. You may be familiar with these delightful landscapes. ;-)

I was thinking about constructing a circle of some heavy material that I could apply as two semi-circle halves; and perhaps bind the two haves together with thin wire.... As I will need to cover the circles with some grid of wire... like chicken wire.

Or maybe I need to drill holes into the plastic container at the top so I can secure it better with a wire capturing the "ring" and the hole drilled into the plastic near the top rim of the container.

There must be some etsy type maker producing this kind of thing.

If you see something. Say something. Include a link.
lol. [OK I stole that line from the airport security announcement]

I need ideas or a solution for keeping the squirrels from digging into the top of containers.

Thanks!

PS: I am not a skilled MAKER; more closer to a desk sitter. But I can try to make something. :-)

Yes... I thought we had to have this conversation here, on rollitup. At least one per decade. ;-)

And seriously... Those concentric tan plastics in the back look quite functional; and are similar to my vision though mine was more farm-ey with wire mesh.

Thank you, WBG!

A very simple solution and cheap and easy. Buy garden netting. Amazon, I bought a roll. I use it on my strawberries and on my raspberries. This stuff works so good. Whether it's Birds rabbits or squirrels. They hate netting. This netting is so thin, you can hardly see it. But what I found out is the trick. Is they can't stand to get trapped. I would cut a piece of it and roll it up a little bit crunch it and lay it around your plant. If it's a raised bed or a pot roll it up put some of it in the pot. You can cover your plant it'll get plenty of sunlight.20250609_182959.jpg20250609_185705.jpg20250609_182948.jpg
