This is probably a dumb question

it can be in the genetics, or it can be caused by stress, accidental or purposely...some examples of accidentally would be changing light cycles, temperatures, over fertilizing...pretty much any kind of stress that makes your plant "unhappy"

..as far as genetics, some strains are more predisposed to turn hermie and are much more sensitive to these stresses.

Nah, bag seeds are a good way to invest lightly into a first grow. You will be fine, the hardest part will be figuring which are girls and which are boys, which isn't hard after you learn what your looking for ;]

Since your bagseed is an unknown stain, no one is going to be able to give you a definitive answer as to whether or not it has hermie traits. I've pulled 2 hermies out of my bagseed grow so far this year, hopefully there aren't going to be any more of them. Next time I'm going to get clones or seeds of a known, hermie resistant strain. I'm done with bagseed.
