This was my first time topping plants which I did above the 3rd node. I started with 3 plants of each strain, so tried both single topping and topping twice.
With some of the plants the topped nodes were “outgrown” by the nodes below the top.
For example:

above - blue is first top, purple is second top. However the nodes BELOW the 4 tops (green arrows) have more dominant growth with larger buds.
also

above - again the nodes below the blue top grew more dominant.
In some of my plants the topped nodes maintained their dominance but I can’t tel what differentiates them?
I can speculate how it happened... when I cut the tops, the new growth remaining at the top nodes were very small compared the the big fan leaves/growth on the node below the top. Therefore the growth on the tops is behind from the get go.
Did I do something wrong? How can I endure that the top node tops remain dominant?
