I have a single plant i have been growing under cfls and hps in a soil, perlite, and sphagnum peat, in a pretty small pot.
I built a DWC bucket today, and would like to give it a try, but all i have on hand are
Home made net pots.
small rocks i washed.
More perlite and peat moss.

I have read a bunch of other threads but what im looking for is not clear....
Can i put the rocks in the bottom of the pot, then some perlite, put the plant in there leaving the soil in tact, and fill the space with perlite.
Then use something to block the lights...

And throw it in the DWC?
im kind of paranoid a its my only plant at the moment and i want her to be a healthy strong mommy.
I may take a clone or two tonight but im not sure its ready... i will be so much more apt to experiment when ive got some rooted clones.

I would suggest you wait until you take clones AND the clones survived and rooted. However I've done it without backup, soil to hydro and hydro to soil with no shock visible to the plants afterwards. They don't care one bit.

Don't keep the dirt, just rinse all the dirt out of the root mass in the sink or bathtub. Turn the water on high at room temperature and the soil will be all rinsed out in no time at all with very little effort. Then stick it in straight lava or whatever medium you use. If you leave the dirt in the roots it will stay too wet and you'll get root rot, poor growth, gnats, etc.

I forgot to add that you can stick a regular kitchen strainer under the plants you are rinsing to keep from plugging up your pipes with soil etc.

that what i do just take your soil plant and loosly brake the soil open under running water at room temp and just let it wash the dirt away and lightly run ur fingers thru it... after all dirt is gone then place some grow medium down and place bottom of roots in then more medium and just fill it around you roots now... easy and maybe use a lil thrive alive b-1 or some superthrive like a day in advance and then an hour or so before hand... not a must but helps a lot with stress
