Trimming Bad Leafs

I have heard both sides so I would be interested also in hearing what our resident grow pros think.

I'm no pro- but after reading the Cannabis Grow Bible by Greg Green- The answer he gives is that you should not remove fan leaves until they have lost at least 1/2 of their chlorophyll. While still healthy, the leaves provide energy to the upper part of the plant. When they are seriously dying, getting rid of them is the best thing to do.

I've heard pulling leaves off ain't good.I clip mine but not all the way to the stem.I leave bout a quarter inch or so an the plant takes care of the rest.I clip mine soon as I see em starting to die off as long as I got plenty of other leaves for back up u kno.Seems to be working ok for me but then again this is my first time growin.

There really is no point to trim leaves- your plant is using those leaves to feed itself light- If your plant is done using a certain leaf- then it will drop that leaf...

substitute trimming leaves with cleaning them from your medium- dont trim, just clean em up when they fall..

If you REALLY feel as if you need to cut something, just look for bud sites that are being covered by a large fan leaf, dont cut at the stem, but just take a couple of inches off each blade, that will shed some light to your bud-site, and you will still ahve your leaf that will be able to soak in that light!!!

I've done pretty much all the trimming of leaves that I feel is safe.Right now they're branching out,an doing it pretty damn quick.About trimming a lil off a leaf or 2 is a new idea.Never thought about that....I'm pretty new with all this so I'm kinda sucking all this info in.

I know it seems fun to "trim" and prune and stuff like that but it just isnt necessary... its also a GOOD way to stunt your plant for a few days..... we dont want to wait longer for our harvest do we??? shit, I know I dont.

remember that info.

Nice post well stated,I agree Fan leaves don't need to be trimmed at all when the plant is done with a leaf it will dry up shrivel and fall off then you can pick it up off the ground and throw it away...I never cut off any fan leaves...when a leaf is yellowing or changing colors it's because the plant is pulling all the mobile nutrients and anything it can use out from the leaf, when you cut it off this gets inhibited....:joint:

I can't wait till harvest even tho it'll probably be sometime in Oct.I'm hoping the frost here holds off long enough, cause winter an all that comes early in Maine.I've had em goin since April 1st an I think I'm doin pretty good.My tallest is 21 inches, most are around 14 tho,I have a couple runts that are at 10.I dunno if height means much with the plant but figured I'd mention it since I can't get any pics up yet.

For the most part I agree that leaves should not be trimmed until they are looking really bad.I do not think it is wise to wait for a leaf to fall off on it's own during flowering because a dead leaf hanging out that long can mold up or spread that crap to other parts of the plant including the buds.If there is a lot of dead leaf tissue then you may want to trim that part off .

Good luck.

what??? f a leaf is all dried up and shrivlled- that means its dry and you arent going to get mold on something that is dry...

and spreading??? If you have a plant that is using all its stored nitrogen- how would a dead leaf spread disease?? there is nothing left in it to spread- its not a disease. Its a deficiency-

new rule for the people: If its alive- leave it
If its dead and fell in your soil- clean it
If you absolutely feel as if you need to
cut something- take an in. off ea. blade.

i cut off the burned PART of a leaf, not the whole thing. it's not aiding the plant in energy, it has no use and it might be blocking light.
