tube vs air cooled hood

i wass testing both today and the tube looks like it spreads out more light than the air cooled hood but everyong says that the aircooled hood spreads out more light can anyone help and comment on thies i wnna order another 1000hps but dnt know what to get hood or tube its gonna got ina 5x10 tent

depends whats spreading your light and if its adjustable some cooltubes have adjustable bat wings on them

The tube lets the light go in all directions. A vented hood directs it down, almost doubling your efficiency if you have the lights above a canopy. Hanging lights in tubes seem to be a grow efficiency "secret" of those who grow many big trees for yield, but it's hard to adapt their techniques to a hobby/household-sized grow. cn

im not gon be hanging lights in tube so the hood would be the way to go

yup if its downward light reflection for max results yes the hood not the tube

just try and get the right size hood for your bulb. i have a 600w in a xxl hood and it shits me because the light is all up one end of the hood i think i would get better spread with a smaller hood.

I have and use both. 2 1000 hoods and 3 600 tubes. 1 of my tubes has a normal open air reflector hood around it. Other 2 have the top 1/4 lined with aluminum. All are horizontal set. All cool great if you don't run your ducting inline. Meaning 1 side is in and the other is out. Useing t's to canect all lights. The hoods derect light better down on my plants but the tubes cover a larger area and alowe light to reflect off the walls. So ether way it's a good choice. Just depends on what you want.
