Hey there, I just finished my first grow and learned some lessons along the way. I used a 2x4x5 grow tent in my detached garage with a cheap "600w" LED that was likely much weaker than advertised, so I'm looking to switch to a 600w HPS instead. A big reason why I chose HPS is because I struggled with keeping temperatures above 60F earlier this year; I had to place a space heater in the tent and did not run the exhaust fan at all until weather started to get warmer. However, currently the tent tends to stay in the upper 80s even with the fan running.
The fan I was using was the VIVOSUN 4 Inch 203 CFM Inline Duct Fan which had a variable controller. I just bought a second 2x4x5 grow tent and while the CFM (if accurate) should be enough for both tents simultaneously, I have doubts that it could keep temperatures adequate for both of them especially with a 600w HPS in each of them. All of the air-cooled reflectors I've seen while shopping around have a port for a 6 inch duct, so that might be a factor.
Does anyone have advice on what kind of fan would be strong enough to keep both tents cool without being total overkill? I think I would need to be able to control the speed so I could turn it way down in the colder months.
