I recently bought some Gorilla Glue #4 at a rec store. For like maybe the first time in 6 years, I really enjoy the flavor of this strain. It has become one of my favorites. Lo and behold, I break open a bud and out pops a perfect seed. Fat, dark...perfect. So, I saved it. A few days later, I break open another bud and find two more perfect seeds....Subsequently, I'm up to about 8 seeds...and still have a bunch more buds to go through!
I have grown rogue seeds before -from different strains...DawgWalker Kush....Vortex...G-13, etc. Almost always in every case, the resulting female plants have thrown nanners...but the smoke has often been very good in spite of that trait.
Gorila Glue #4 is a clone-only strain, I believe, so I know that a rogue seed might turn into something quite different than what I'm after...but I have heard that GG #4 is also a clone that often throws nanners, anyway. If that is true, then I'm not sure I see the problem with trying to grow out a few of these GG rogues...coming up with a progeny that's equally tasty and effective as the GG #4 being the goal....(nanners be damned!).
If a clone-only strain is known for throwing nanners, then could it be because that clone was born from pollen made by a female nanner to begin with? After all, a few nanners that show up on an otherwise all-female plant doesn't mean that plant is a hermaphrodite. Lots of female plants throw nanners as a last-resort to make some seeds and continue the genetic line.
Yeah, I could just go and get a clone of GG #4...which I will likely do eventually. But growing from seed is so much more fun...because...growing from seed is like a box of chocolates...you never know what you're going to get!
