ok im stitting here stoned.... like i am when i have most of my ideas... and was thinking what is you get a big tub (like the big 20+gal rubbermade container) and you get pvc pipe and make it a vertical grow with misters on it.. drew up a little somthing on paint so here it is... and you prop would have to have misters on each plant.. and the pvc low enough that its under water with a T fitting so you can have an airstone glued right there so it gives the roots up there good air

Hmm......interesting. I've always wanted to try a little vertical diy. You may have given me a little inspiration there.

you would feel up the tub like a dwc and then just have misters on the pvc where the beginning of the roots are ganna be. then the rest of the roots are ganna be under the water in the dwc part... and yeah the roots would get tangled so you would have to do it from clone or fem seed... would hate to pull males from that.. i think that if you can only have a little room but the hight of the room then this would be good... and have a suplimental lower watt hps on the underside...

It's an interesting approach, but my question is just how well this would make use of space. I would think that simply going wider (using more of the area on the top of the reservoir) would give you the same final yield.

And while it's not strictly DWC, once the roots hit the reservoir it wouldn't be strictly aeroponics either. It's a combination of the two.

Interesting concept, but I think that the best way to do it would be to just go two levels on the vertical, with the second level turned 90 degrees to the first, and stick a plant in the middle. Any more and you're just going to shade the lower plants with the upper ones IMHO.

Oh, and as far as roots getting tangled goes, that only really matters if you're worried about males. Use clones or feminized seed and it doesn't matter much if you can't get them apart easily.

You're close. If I would do a vertical grow - wink, wink - I would use a round tub from Menards or Lowe's for 5 bucks. have 4 "arms" coming out with three "fingers" on each. If you had a 7' ceiling limit, you could have up to 6 locations on each finger. You would want to use 2' pipe and 2' Ys with a 1 1/2" coming off of it. I would next, run 1/2" cpvc pipe and use 180 nozzels at each location. have the pump on a cycle timer, hang your bulbs down the center of the tub, cover the tub with a home made lid, set the lights on 12on / 12off. If I were doing a system like stinkbud was doing, but wanted to go vertical, that's what I would do. Just my thoughts (after "thinking" about how to do it six times). I would guess that it would use up a 3x3 space and you would have up to 72 plants in that area. I don't know why anyone would do less, but to each their own.

yeah that was just a quick paint pic i made if i did do that i would use much more of the top space then just 2 pipes... i would have a few and yeah the 90 degrees from the other would be good

and new grower i can kinda think about it but not really,.... lol
