What do you lot do to?

i grow outside an all most everytime i have some sort of bug problem ( Gnats, catapillers etc) just wondering what everyone uses to maintain their plants just spary water every couple of days or some chemicals add to water .............

Water will do nothing for your bug problem.. I recomend hot pepper wax spray throughout veg an just once when it starts to show some buds. You should be fine for the remainder of the year

ive been growing outside for many years and have never had a bug problem, its like one bug take care of the other and hot dry summer takes care of them all. A good strong hardy outdoor strain helps, some indoor strains cant resist anything same as doubtful (poor breeding) genetics.

A good measure of Bonide systemic house plant pesticide. You know it's good cause the label says "keep out of the reach of children".

Actually I'm about 99% clean in the yard and garden but sometimes you HAVE to break out the big guns. The canker worms will eat something down to the bones if they like it. I know it sounds whacked but you can actually hear them chewing and their "frass" (shit) falls so heavy you would think it was raining and I swear I'm not kidding. It's creepy!! Insecticidal soap is great for some pests but you have to act fast. Wait until tommorow and your screwed.

Your lucky I would get decimated. Especially early on when they are smaller and don't have quite a much foliage. The grasshoppers were especially bad this year.

I've notived it's somewhat strain dependent too it seems. For example, the grasshoppers (or whatever it was) made swiss cheese out of my Dinafem Cali Hash Plant, but didn't hardly touch the Magus Motavation plant that was only a few feet away. That Motavation was one hell of a plant though. I gave some to a buddy of mine's dad who has some health problems and he called me up the next day a told me a friend of his lives in California and a few months back he was in to visit. Said the friend is on the medical program out there and gave him a taste of some he bought a a dispensary and it wasn't as good at Motavation.

Nice to hear. Waited all summer for the bug problems that didn't happen. Really glad I missed "bud worms"! Been a gardener for many years with no bug problems here (except slugs, managed by ducks), but this was my first full on outdoor grow, and had no problems with those plants either. Only thing that ate my plants was my horse.

I agree in a balanced environment, one bug manages another. I have never used pesticides, and the property was untouched before we built, so it's as natural as possible. Nature's chain is pretty amazing. Easy for us with some acreage to do that, but harder when the guy next door is spraying pesticides and altering the balance of an entire neighborhood.

you have answered alot of my posts here and seem to really understand the outdoor growing. What strains do you suggest for outdoor growing? I am smack in the middle of the US. i have a indoor garden going but would like to get some outdoor stuff going this coming summer

Sonar, Yes i agree some strains are a bit 'soft' when it comes to bug/disease resistance.One thing i do find hard to avoid after a lot of rain is slugs like mountaingarden.


Powerslide glad to help, get a good strain from a good breeder that goes well outdoor. Maybe try a sativa and have a watering plan.

I don't have much problems with bugs, my biggest problem is always slug and rabbit. A box of slug bait pellets keeps the slugs away, and a roll of chicken wire will go a long way. One thing I want to mention is Neem oil? I heard somebody else on here mentioning about it, you apply neem oil to your plants and its supposed to be natural pesticide or insecticide and completely harmless to humans The other benifet of neem oil is that its supposed to help fight mold, Im probably going to be giving that a try this spring.
