Just curious what peoples experiences have been and what medical marijuana users really need in their designates.

What is required to be a DG? Absolutely nothing at all, and I mean literally, you don't even have to know how to grow a single plant.

Now if your question is what is required to be a GOOD DG, that's a totally different question.

To be a good DG, you need to have compassion for your patients, the ability to grow top grade cannabis, the ability to be RELIABLE (This is a huge one for us patients), communication is key. Remember, these people are putting their health needs in your hands.

My personal experience is very good, I have a fantastic DG who works with me to ensure I get exactly what it is I need in a very timely fashion. Honestly wouldn't trade my DG for anyone. Always top grade, very clean meds.

I hear it will end in 2014, everything will be grown commercially, no more residential growing will be allowed by health canada.

That's what Harper is trying to do, should he succeed then yes, that's what will happen, however, there are so many people who will suffer greatly from financial burden under this new program structure that it may be fought off before long.

Yeah, Harper needs to go and I am hoping that will be achieved in the next election, all the other parties are talking legalization, Libertarians want it decriminalized only (I think) and the PC's well, we all know about them.
So as Pharaoh states, reliability and communication are keys to being a good DG. Obviously quality product, timely service and support are tenets of any business and if those things are really lacking in the DG community then there is opportunity as well. How are DG's failing thier patients might be a better question, although it may result in the same answers. Thanks for the feedback.

Liberals are calling for legalization not decriminalization (TMK). For example Joyce Murray is running for Lib leadership and is vocal about legalization/regulation. Not sure about the other candidates yet, but the party knows it's in their best interest and it's helping them siphon votes away from the NDP which could win them the election. http://www.liberal.ca/getting-smart-on-crime-and-cannabis/
not to degrade the quality of this conversation with politics and I am not advocating any of our 20 odd parties (including the Marijuana Party, yep thats what they call it). But change is in the wind, god I hope the Tories get feckin crushed in the next election!

A DG is only required to have is a clean crimminal record or at least nothing drug related or voilent.

I don't believe that the system will change that fast...2014...our political system is so slow and ass backwards. If any thing actually happens it will be met with great opposition and besides it will be a federal election that year and cannabis will be used as a pawn for the lemmings votes.

I WILL NEVER STOP GROWING MY MEDICINE.

The result of commercial Medical MJ. Doesn't anyone remember Flin Flon. A complete waste of time and money. Moldy, low grade meds. I personally do not see it going commercially and will take my own case to the Supreme Court of Canada if need be. Everyone needs to stand up against our Dictator, Harper!!! I personally think that a DG should only be able to supply so much to said amount of people. My thought is like a regular Doctor. Do you want a Doctor that has a 2000 patient list or more, or one that has a few hundred at most and doesn't have to reread your medical file to remind them of your medical history. Same goes for a DG to supply someone with their meds, It's all about compassion towards someones ailments. I personally only suffer from major pain and some days the inability to do anything let alone crawl to the washroom. But to know of someone whom has ailments worse than my own and I was their DG, I'd like to be able to focus my ability to supply them with the meds they need to alleviate them of their ailments, even if it is help them hold their food down, or be able to sleep unaffected for 6 hours, without pain waking them.

Commercially supplied anything has not Compassion in mind at all, ONLY MONEY!!! Thats my rant for now, Peace!!

P.S. Also I think that there should be a buffer on said limits/numbers, as sometimes unexpected disasters or mishaps happen. No reason a patient should have to go without because there was a flood, extended power failure etc etc..

Unfortunately Health Canada came out with there new medical marijuana today. No more personal growing and no more designated growers unless your operation is at a commercial level. Read their release and do something about it!

After reading this I ask my self is it worth it to keep trying for my card I will never have medicine at there price and not all strains work for me.It looks like HC is more worried about how much money they can make off it then helping people...WHAT A SHAME!!!!!

A shame? we the public are what allows this crap to happen, why shame people for taking advantage of those who don't want to stand a fight for themselves? This is what our entire society is based on.

Don't say "What a shame health canada is doing this," Instead say "Shame on us for allowing them to do this."

Get up and fight instead of making simple discussion on some forum that won't make a lick of difference when the time comes.

Pharoah is right. The minister of HC says they are taking in feedback for the next 75 days and after that they're not listening. But who cares. Crop out, sell your weed and instead of spending your money unwisely, take these guys to court and challenge them. The right to grow for yourselves - at least a few plants! I think I might start another thread for the more serious. Who has the self belief that they want to fight this? If you do and you want to put some money where your desire is...then come on board. Class action time people. Let's get organized. PM me if you're motivated.
