What Lights Would Fit My Situation?

I've looked at 'em all but, I don't know exactly what I should buy... I'm growing in a closet about 2ft wide by 4ft long... I'm thinking about growing 2 ladies. I was looking at 400 MHs...

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated...

Welcome to the forum. Buy the 4'-8 tube t-5 fixture, 1/2 blue 1/2 red bulbs. Hang it up plug it in turn on 1/2 of it for seedling and clones, turn on the rest as the plants grow. I have a few things to say about the t-5's in my journal. VV

400 watt HPS or MH+HPS (if you have the money) would be good, assuming you can keep the temperatures in control (that's a lot of heat for a closet- you'll need great ventilation). The simpler and cheaper way would be to stick with CFLs...but HID will give you better results once you get it under control.

What wattage and how many would you siggest if I went with the CFLs?

Do you have any site's where I can check those out?

I disagree with you, justsomedude. It's not like you're wasting money...the 400 watter doesn't go away after one grow. As long as you're pretty sure that you will continue growing, then why not go full throttle?

Technically, if you buy tons of CFLs and then switch to HID for your second grow, you're wasting more money.

Ok fellows, lets just look at the question for a minute. The man said what would be the best light to get for a 2' by 4' closet. This table is 35" wide by 51" long. There are 12 plants on this table. If you were to cut off one row of plants you would have a 2' by4' area with one light hung, plugged in that will do the entire grow from start to finish, allowing 18" more height to grow in because of the height of the light and how close you can get it to the plants.
You dont have to adjust anything except the height of the light.
Post after post,"Help its a 100 f&^%$ degrees in my closet what can I do."
And the best part, you will get a yeild equivilant to a 600watt hid. Before you buy, click on the link in my signature and read it. Folks have even posted some sources. VV

personally would go for 400w lamp with MH and HPS bulbs for vegging and flowering, linked to a cool tube light and a 125mm in line fan to blow the air through the light, and give you super cool growing conditions even in a poorly vented cupboard.

ok, so add up all the costs of what you are recommending, and make a comparison. Use 'Real' figures. The t-5 cost $340.00 out the door ready to do the entire grow from start to finish. Uses 40 watts more of electric for running the light and none to cool the light. Gives you 18" more plant height. Do you tjink that might have an effect on yield. And while you are getting that information together maybe you could find a picture to back up your advice. VV

Yea that was pretty lame. VictorVicious has a really good point and plenty of reasons to back it up, including experience.

I agree with him now on the T-5 idea. That probably is your best option, because temperatures in a small growing area can get out of hand very easily. That being said, you could also successfully run a 400 watt system IF you're willing to put a lot of time and environment into proper ventilation (that's an important 'if').

the whole point of a forum is for people to ask others their opinion, as far as I know there are many methods of growing cannabis and certainly nothing is written in stone, so for someone to demand that people provide evidence is extremely arrogant, so maybe VD ought ot step down off his high horse.

Yea, here's what my friend recently purchased:
High Tech Garden Supply
That's both MH (conversion bulb) and HPS, and the best deal I know of for a 400 watt system.

As for the T5 system:
High Tech Garden Supply
I don't know much about fluorescents personally, but that seems like a nice system. HTG Supply is definitely a site worth checking out.

Get a 400 w mh to hps conversion ballast, if you could afford it get a vented intercooled ballast to keep temps down. good luck
