Hi

my first grow unsuccessful... i live in england... cold at the mo... am growing in my garage and have a built grow room that is small but keeps temp at about 65-75°...

fresh air circulating...

my first grow was unsuccessful... both have died... leaves going brown...
not sure whether i overwatered or what but anyway...

what seeds would anyone recommend for these conditions... is there a particularly hardy plant out there that may fair better in this colder climate???

I have shiva seeds at the moment and will persist!!!!

any advice welcome!

Hi u might wanna do something about the temp if u can get it up a bit.. think it will be a bit cold for most plants but that shouldnt kill the little ladies so keep an eye on your ph and how often you water them have u got a moisture meter, about the temp im in uk aswell and i got a auto heater with a thermostat on it for about 40 quid from argos works a treat.

i checked ph of my soil before i planted but i dont check it on a regular basis... i don't have a detector for ph values in water...

i'm guessing i need one huh?

i'm very pleased though - have just checked new seedling and in 2-3 days it's as big as the first two were after a week and a half...

These are a MUST: ph kit & moisture wand.

With those two items you won't ever be guessing about when to water or if your ph level is correct again.

Life will be much simpler with those two tools to help. No more guessing (at least not as much).

Hi Mogie... well after feeling the soil of my new seedling this morning she felt a little damp so didn't water until I'd purchased a ph wand and also a moisture wand....

trotted off home with my new purchases and had a little look at my baby which is (after only 3-4 days under light... bigger, stronger and looking much healthier than the first two (now dead) did after a week and a half... so good news... main difference is that light is now on 24 hours and seedling is not directly under it.

so i got home, tested the soils ph. It was 7 before watering. Tested the ph of the actual water... 6.5. Tested moisture content of soil... it was just under 3 (dry)... time for watering!

Watered the seedling carefully (not too much, not too little) let it drain well and tested the moisture content of the soil (on my tester it was between 3 and 7 (moist)... 1 to 3 is dry, 3 to 7 is moist, 8-10 is wet (good for aqua plants!)

so, to recap, after watering, ph of soil is between 6.5 and 7 and is reading moist (not dry, not wet)

I hope this is good news!
