This is a total noob's first grow plan, can you you spot my errors?
Grow Location:
In a bedroom with a window, So a fan can be placed by the door for intake and a fan can be placed in front of the window for exhaust.
Materials:
2 White Widow Clones in Rockwool
1 EconoWing Reflector (sans Bulb):
1 150W CFL (for the reflector)
4 42W CFLS with reflectors:
2 3 Gallon Pots
6 Gallons of Miracle Grow Potting Soil
1 Bag of Scotts Perilite
1 package Whitefly Strips
1 bottle Bang! Pesticide:
1 Probe Thermometer
1 Ruler
2 Drainage Pans
1 PH up
1 PH Down
7 Gallons distilled water
1 PH Test Kit. (Which one)?
2 Moisture and PH soil monitors.
Grow Plan:
1. Prepare two (2) three gallon planter pots with drainage holes. Place a piece of newspaper at the bottom of each pot. Fill the bottom of each pot with half an inch of perilite.
2. Make a mixture of 80% soil and 20% perilite (4 qts of perilite to 20 qts of soil.)
3. Add this mixture to both pots, leave one inch of space at the top of each pot.
4. Place the pots on Drainage pans about ½ foot apart.
5. Plant the clones in the soil.
6. Hang the cfl reflector over the two plants with the 150w bulb, 3 inches above the top of the plants, turn this on and leave it on 24 hours a day.
7. Clip 4 42W CFLs with reflectors to the sides of the main reflector. Adjust the light so it shine on the sides of the plant. Leave these on 24 hours a day. (it would look something like this):
8. Add some PH up to distilled water, test it until it has a ph of 7.4.
Question: Is now the time to add nutrients to the water, and if so, what kind and in what concentrations?
9. Water the rockwool cube with the PH adjusted water until water drains out the bottom of the pot.
10. Place a fan by the door and anther, slower fan by the window.
11. Check the plant every day, and only water if the top two inches of soil are dry. Only water until the soil is moist, not soggy. If leaves droop, plant is over, or under watered, depending on moistness of top soil.
Question: I purchased 2 moisture monitors for my soil pots. What level of moisture should I strive to maintain?
12. Check the plant every day and make sure the temperature of the soil is above 70 degrees and below 80 degrees. If the temperature is too low, add some 42W cfl’s around the upper sides of the plant. If the temperature is too high and I don't have an air conditioning I should...???
13. Check the plant every day and make sure the plant’s first set of nodes remains green. If the node turns red, it is a sign of nutrient deficiency and an unbalanced pH. If the PH of my soil becomes unbalanced I should adjust it by...???
14. Check the plant every day and make sure that the new grown fan leaves are larger than the previous set. If they are smaller, it means unbalanced PH or overfeeding or watering.
15. Check the plant every day and rotate it by 90% to ensure even distribution of light to all leaves.
16. Check the plant every day for rusty brown spots on the leaves, check every leaf. If only one or two leaves have them, ignore the issue for now. If more than 4 leaves develop the spots, then the plant has a nutrient deficiency, possibly due to a lack of food or lack of adjusted PH.
17. When the plants reach 5 inches in height, attach a light timer to the lights, and set the plants for 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness. At this time, I will need to prevent light leakage onto the plant during the 12 hours of darkness. I should do this by....???
18. Check the plant every day For alternating nodes. Once it has grown alternating nodes, it is about to enter the flowering stage
19. Check the plant every day for tiny white hairs that appear at the nodes, indicating a female.
20. Check the plant every day and pull off dying leaves that will appear around the bottom of the plant.
21. When all of the white pistils have turned orange-brown cut at the lowest point where the stalk meets the soil.
Questions:
1. I am using a soil moisture meter to grow White Widow in a 3 gallon pot with Miracle Grow potting soil. What level of moisture on the meter should I strive for?
2. If I am growing from clones, how much should I water them for the first few days. The book recommends watering a seedling every couple of days so the “fragile, young roots don’t dry out”. Should I do this with the clone as well?
3. At what temperature do live cannabis leaves burn? I was thinking of getting the infra-red thermometer that they sell at Williams-Sonoma and using it to test the surface temperature of the leaves, bringing the lights as close as possible to the top leaves without going over the danger temperature.
4. Should I follow the exact water amounts given in the book, or should I only water until I hit a certain level of soil moistness each time?
5. I'm still not sure what kind of plant food to use, solid, liquid, or what concentrations of cal-mag or anything else, does anybody have any ideas?
6. During the flowering cycle, the plants will need 12 hours of total darkness. How should I prevent light leakage from outside the room from hitting the plants. I considered putting the plants in a closet, but this would not allow proper air circulation?
