Which LEDs to Buy?

if your wanting to know that to buy your own LEDs and make your own custom light, i dont think its going to be a good idea because usually the LEDs are made custom by large companies, and when you buy small quantities you pay a large price,
the LEDs are usually 1W to 3W(on Ebay you can buy 1watts for around 1$ per piece....which is NOT recomended.) individual LEDs and each company (that make UFOs) use different Wave lengths.... usually beetween 400-445nm and 650-670nm (the numbers arent acurate.... i just eyeballed..... but yeah so if this helps you, im happy and if it doesnt, well at least other people can see it.....

hey man, check out my LED grow. I have a new pic tomorrow, some white rhino growin nice. Choose 3 watt leds. They are a lot cheaper than 5 Watts, but if you are big money money bags... buy one 100 watt led chip. good luck

i<3 i saw that UFO that mixed one uses 7:1:1 red,blue,orange LEDs in them. Now do you think i would need 3W LEDs with right length waves? And what about spectrum of the light and lumens?

A square panel is quite a waste of distribution of light for the power it uses unless its pretty small. It sounds cool, but then you would be using more electricity than you need and wasting LED power (eliminating the benefit of using less power than HID)
I think growledhydro panels the best/most proven, their website is a bit out of date though (their panels are all 3w diodes run avg of 1.9-2w now) here are some pics of my grow with one

I'm not sure exactly. Its 12 spectrum, here is what Mike told me in an email "5 wavelengths in the Blue spectrum, one in the white that actually puts out 3 wavelengths Red/Blue/Green and 6 wavelengths in the Red spectrum". That red includes orange as well, I read somewhere of the ratios once but cannot remember well enough, its more of a flowering panel than a veg though (though it will veg great, and you have to run the whole thing no switches for GLH)
I've never seen any here, not very many people bother trying to build their own. I don't think it would be worth the effort unless you plant to cover a large commercial area and bulk order prebuilt panels didn't come at a good enough deal. Google might be able to help you though, although most of the tutorials (if there are any) are probably out of date with how the LED tech is now compared to even 6 months ago

led's suck IMHO, you may be able to get away with vegging but i wouldnt even do that,
i use 4 foot long shop light cfl's and but the bulbs at the hydro store. its about 40$ when your done building it.. again... only good for vegging or cloning.
id go at least 400w hps for flowering.

Unfortunately your 'O' is not up to date and well educated on the capabilities of LED in flower. Yes there are tons of shitty grows out there, but there have been many great LED grows in the last couple years with certain companies panels (because most companies were crap and making crap up about how good they were, I'd say there 4 or 5 good companies). Its not your fault, you can look up Irishboy for starters (there are also many different great LED growers following his journals). Could also google 'settingsun LED' for more
* I went from a 400w HPS to a 395w LED and boy howdy did it make a huge difference for me (more nodes, more penetration, faster growth). Maybe not enough to justify the upfront cost to some, but with all the less heat and more efficiency it will definitely save for most people in the long run.

hps if heat isnt gonna be and issue and u dont mind all the extra costs bulbs ac ect...but if u can afford a good led or even blackstars r on the cheap side with good grow journals nooing hating on there yet...LEDS also give better quility from what i can see..I have a Quatum 600w cool tube and man is it hot and its the coolest 1 out there..Next time imma get 3 blackstars 2 for colas and 1 underneath..

Aim for cree and other US made LEDs. Also pay close note to the wattage rating. You want to look at actual wattage not LED wattage (generally LED wattage is twice that of the actual pull). Most companies would market that light above as an 864w system versus the 360w actual draw (90w UFOs pull ~35w). Aim for high Wattage LEDs over higher quantities of smaller LEDs - don't settle for smaller than 2-3w a piece. Spectrum wise you want at least two reds a blue and either an orange or white. That one above has 11...not sure if that's completely necessary but you might want to look into each of the nm they include.
