Which lights and how many....

My grow box is

12 1/2 inches tall

10 inches width

and goes back by 7 inches

I am hoping to grow my plants to about 10 - 11 inches then flower them but not sure what lights to use I was thinking 1 500 watt HID garden flood light fitted in the top that way it will be well lit and hopefully the right temp or I was thinking 2 floresent bulbs not sure what watt but lil help please this is a small grow box I know I am only hoping for a about 4 plants so I can grow for myself I think I could squeeze 6 in but comforbaly fit 5 in please reply and I will be back later tonight but will still be signed in! tnx


Oh ps just a lil n00b question..... do the lights provide all the heat or do I need anohter device for the heat... ty

Buy the most watts you can afford in HID lights. Watch your temps and grow. Use MYLAR to line your grow area. Do not waste those precious rays at all.

Weed can tolerate temps as low as 40 degrees if in soil. Hydro systems are more sensitive to cold shock.

Sounds to me like changa just wants him to burn his plant.

I'm not sure of any HID lighting system that you could use in a box that is just 12 inches high, if on average you need to keep the light at least a foot away to keep the plant from burning, so guess theres not much space for the pot to grow in, you can only grow a seedling in there before it gets cooked, i suppose next you'll be telling him that he needs to get a carbon scrubber a metal halide and a hps and a co2 tank and regulator, jesus what else can be thought of thats totally inappropriate.

Yet again another example that you really, just can not read.

NonGreen I would be honoured by your thoughts on light placement as it applies to my setup. My lights were like 6" up and some people say too close, some say too far. I am a noob to this still, and you seem to have the knowledge I am seeking. Stop by by thread 'my first grow' if you are down :peace:

Get the most watts you can afford in HID. Anything else is what non-professionals recommend.

Just ignore changa, if you follow his advice and put any kind of HID light in that box you are going to cook your plants and give yourself endless nutrient problems.

Hahahah ... cook the plants as a scare tactic....hahhahaha. The dude probably owns a fan and if not he should have one to promote strong stems and healthy plant growth.

But do not let the "heat boogy man" scare you or the rest of the forum.

You will get better bud hands down everytime with HID lighting. :blsmoke:

150 watts of MH is what he needs ...... but you will recommend some stupid fucking floro kiddie light bulb which produces headache weed.

The rule of thumb is get the most watts you can afford in HID. If he can not find HID's, then floros as a last fucking resort.

That is what you should be saying ya dick and not for him to get a Popeye night light to grow by.

That is what the professionals say but not here or with you.

To the original poster:

Get yourself some compact flourescents (CFLs.) You can find them at your local hardware store. You'll want to grab ones that are ~45-50 watts. And make sure they're actually that wattage, sometimes they put "Just like 150 watts!" on the box but that doesn't mean it's really 150watts.

If you search through the forums you will find plenty of information about CFLs, the light spectrum and which end is good for which part of the growing process, and lots of other helpful stuff. So, have at it and good luck.

To the rest of you guys: Chill out. It's just the internet. bongsmilie

Lol WTF happened when I was asleep ltos of posts.... some more random than others XD ye I thought the lights being about 2" away from the plant would be ok that way there only 10" plants granted but its only a bit on the side for me to toke.... and anyway will some1 still help me with my question.... whcih lights then? floresent I have been looking at and seem ok for what I am looking to do this is no wholesale opperation a few eigths and a game consols my vacation....
