Hey guys,

So I grew a nice G13xBSH outside this year and it smells GREAT. A couple of the popcorn buds from below dried out early so I started to cure them. The first time I opened the jar, about 9 hours after I had put it in, the awesome skunky smell was gone. It is replaced with a smell of old grass clippings, like normal plants smell, not pot:-(

Is this normal? Will the smell come back as it continues to dry? I've done a search on a few forums and I have turned up nil. Also, how long do you guys normally let them hang dry?? I'm on day 4 and it seems I have 4 more to go.

Thanks for kickin knowledge to a newbie!

Also, anyone know what happened to CSC?

you are smelling the chlorophyl leaching out of the plant. that's why if you switch to glass jars for curing you need to open them daily to let the chlorophyl out.

curing can take 3 weeks and longer. i burp my jar daily for 15-20 mins for 2-3 weeks. then leave them in a jar unopened for anothe 2-3 weeks. its seems to be working. my bubba kush was 2 weeks ahead of the other strains im curing right now and the bubba picked up a nice smell.

haha! finally someone who shares the same problem. i've had this issue with 2 of my grows, northern lights and bagseed, the bagseed was my first and just thought i fucked up or the strain sucked (it did). i was shocked when i happened with the NL. i never really made it long enough to find out if its incredible fruity scent came back. smoked all the bud before a month after harvest. i got something going right now and i sure hope the same thing doesn't happen. although im gonna give these buds a far longer time to cure.

You need to dry them for at least a week in 50% humidity, 1 week more for every 15% on top of 50, so 80% humidity will take up to 3 weeks to dry correctly. then take the buds and place into glass jars to start curing. open the jars once a day for 15 mins or so. after a week of this you should have a nice smell coming out when you open it.

sucks to hear we all have the same problem... so has anyone ever got this smell to go away once it rears its ugly head??? does anyone know what causes it??

I know you said chlorophyll, does this mean this happens to everyone's pot and the smell comes back once the chlorophyll has escaped?

Thanks guys, and it still doesn't smell any better =(

Some people burp their jars by having a session... I don't really like uncured stuff either. Too much chloraphyl taste...

Give it 3 or so weeks to cure and that fresh cut lawn smell will turn into a nice full flavour. Patience is the key.

CaliMedicated! Its almost imposible to ruin the smell of Bubba Kush. The best way I have found to keep the smell & taste is to dry fairly quickly then cure slowly. I hang for 4-5 days @ 80 degrees then paper bag for 2 days, then put in jars. If it starts to feel moist again I put it back in the bag for another day or two. It seems that the re-moistening reuins the smell and taste. Once its dry and doesnt start feeling wet again I start the open and close the jar routine for about a month, If it last that long!

ya, i dry my nugs for atleast 3 days -5 at the most. never tried the brown bag thing. what does that do for it?? as each day goes on the bubba gets better, super stoney... im enjoying it. ya i try not to re-moisterize any of my nugs, if i dont have to. becuase then its an on going thing, it re dry's and then you have to moisten it agian, which then you lose some yeild and quality.

I think you're a little turned around with what you should be doing. You want to dry the bud until crispy on the outside, then by putting it in a jar, redistribute the moisture through the weed, and repeat this process until your grass aint so green anymore. Itd pretty much the best proven method for removing chlorophyll (and with it, that grassy taste
