Will this Plan work?

- 9 plants, grown from seed
- been almost 5 weeks since the beginning of germination
- Plants about 7" tall, 6 sets of stalk leaves
- 4 sets of internode branches
- On a 24 hr cycles with flos. for veg. Have a 600W HPS for bloom
- Haven't identified the sex's yet

My original plan was to let these plants grow, take clones for sexing and flowering, and then identify the mothers/fathers, and let the mothers grow. But this will take up to another 16 weeks till harvest (4 - 5 weeks for rooting and vegging clones, 11 weeks for flowering/harvest)

My new plan is to take cuttings of each plant, and move the 9 Original plants into flowering immediately. Identify the males/females, and then take care of the clones accordingly. This will only take me 11 weeks. And by the time the flowering is finished, the original clones will be mothers by then and have a new set of clones ready.

I guess the only question I have with this plan is this: Is it safe to take cuttings JUST prior to flowering the plant? And if so, how many cuttings are appropriate?

that would work, you can take clones any time in later veg and up to 20 days into flowering (bushier clones), but dont remove more than 15-20% of the existing growth (avoid stunting), preferably taking the smaller, lower branches that you would normally clean off ne wayz. By flowering your mothers, your putting a lot of faith in the survival of those clones... i would suggest either: waiting till the clones root before switching to flower, just in case they dont survive. OR alternatively, I would suggest leaving the original seeds as mothers, as seeds tend to have stronger and more stable genetics than clones (cloning clones can lead to mutations/hermies) i would recomend taking a few clones and throwing them directly under a 12-12 cycle. They should show their sex within a week or two, and then you could proceed accordingly. this will save you time down the road because you wont have to wait for clones to veg before you can reclone on your next cycle... the mother will be ready to clone every 2-3 weeks... good luck and i hope everything works out.
