word spreading

this will get more advice here. i have some issues with spreading the gospel in a different form. being told to spread it.. yet the churches these days would well rather kicked me out. reason being. its music based and its very very radical. FOR TODAY, IN THE MIDST OF LIONS, AS I LAY DYING, NORMA JEAN, AUGUST BURNS RED, FLATFOOT 56 AND FBS uhh how do i go about to the pastor to get acceptance on this issue? i scream and play drums it that makes a difference

Those are dead churches wrapped up in ritual/tradition, not faith. My dad plays electric guitar at church...

Yeah, it is hard to find open minded church scenes for sure. I gave up long ago and make and find my own spiritual inspirations now.

both of you are giving me the same reasons why i dont go to the churchs and do it. i met this dude who does something called adopt a jesus. brant, he drives a bus and goes around feeding the homeless out of this bus which runs off french fry oil. he made a dvd and in it a church kicked him out of their parking lot after he stoped the bus to crash for the night. I've had many times where i heard or went to churches that are based off of nothing but this conformity ideal where if you stand out its not scripture and your hailed as a heretic. these churches preach but they are dead inside singing the same songs that give people no hope. which is what i feel like im supposed to fill in with "new age" praise and worship. though its rather heavy.

Exactly. Just go and do your own thing. Most organized churches are in it for the money and the tax breaks anymore. They don't like anything threatening that.
Find groups online who feel the way you feel and make friends.

its not about making friends its about going to the church and spreading the word. i took a long break from music couldnt get it out of my head everyday it was there waking me up at 2 5 and 6 in the morning. finally started listening to it again today and it cam back full force and the message was there even harder and heavier than before. im supposed to go to these churches and play/ scream the word. wake these dead churches up and show them that well theres another way.

Believe what you want, but "spreading the word" is one of the things that piss people off about religious folks. If someone is interested they'll seek it out. If someone comes to my door to try and convert me, they'll get a face full of door

well the church is losing its younger croud being they refuse to get with it. i couldnt go to church and find the spirit in that lack of emotion music. even till this day i can go to any church but with their praise and worship i find it very hard and very conflicting because it breeds to much conflict between the two spiritual poles. i try dont get me wrong but it doesnt make anything any clearer just makes my mind race even more as oppose to the heavier music everything goes away and its me and god. younger folks can get what they get from any kind of music. i really dont care if the music scares them. its supposed to. theres that and then theres hard rock or IDM or punk or goth put any of it in praise an worship and a young generation will be able to find some ground in church because this world is a fucked up place.

It sounds to me like youve already hit on what you need to do. Put yourself and your music in the face of those it will appeal to. The youth. You said it yourself. The older crowd is scared of your style and the youth dont want what the older crowd is offering. No brainer to me.

I went to a Stryper Concert in the 80's and they gave everyone a bible at the end of the show. We went straight to the parking lot and snorted coke off the bibles then had premarital sex with some hot chics we picked up at the show.

The worry is with a certain type of music a certain type of lifestyle is then unwittingly endorsed. If the churches conform entirely to the world ('greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world', 'do not conform to the ways of this world' etc) and it's preference to the secular music scene (which is all caught up in fornication and hard drugs, love of mammon and all that stuff, can you see why they can't really open the door to that stuff when people are already excusing sin, covering shit up within the church etc.

It's a hard balance to strike, and yes there is Christian death metal but that seems like TOO much of a juxtaposition... But did you check out Jesus Christ Television like I said? You might like some of their bands, I thought it was just the normal rock channel untill I heard 'jesus' on two consecutive tracks.

In my church we have 2 services one for traditional music and one for modern music. I attend the modern. We have a young man there who is extremely talented on the guitar. He reminds me of Jimi Hendrix, he is that good. But...

He has the worse voice ever, I mean EVER. No matter what his message is all I can think of is I have to get out of here before I die from blood loss from my ears from listening to him singing and shouting. Way off key-a lot.

For you if it is about you getting your message out then it isn't about what or how you want to play, it's about how you deliver your message. A good messenger will consider who they are playing to and tailor the sound to the crowds expectations.

You might ask the music director to work with you and some young people from the congregation to doing a 'modern' Sunday.

FYI- I listen to all kinds of music and I have to tell you if it's all screaming I'd probably walk out. If it's a mixture I'd stay and listen if the message is there.

My church works overtime to bring in the young. It isn't about how you dress, I wear jeans and gym shoes. It isn't about covering 'shit up'. Not all churches are the same (Thank God) and because they are different he might just be in the wrong church for him.

It isn't about looking like a rock star and all that goes with it, as long as you aren't showing body parts. In my minds eye if you or you music are detracting from what you are trying to convey then you are defeating your own message-not them. You see, sending a message isn't supposed to be about you. It's about touching the spirit of someone else and communing in the glory that you feeling in your soul and sharing it.

What I see is you want people to come and hear you as you think it should be played. But, in reality you are going to them and asking them to listen and you are putting out a product that you know is 'different' and you know you will not touch all people with the delivery process you have chosen. I'm sure they do not dislike the message or the messenger.
