Yellowing Leaves on 3 week old plant.

Hey all,

I'm really quite worried about one of my plants.

(She) is 3 weeks old, and in the last few days the bottom sets of leaves have started yellowing.

The plant is in a 16 oz plastic cup, with holes cut at the bottom for drainage, and I am using "Schulz: Bloom" soil with perlite.

Here is a picture:

Any idea what is causing the yellowing of the leaves? I am not giving any nutrients or anything. I am watering with some distilled water every 2 days, and (she) is on an 18/6 lightcycle under 2 x 6500k CFL's.

Thanks for your help!

maybe it needs a shot of ferts, but about this watering...........
water by weight of pot, not by time. water to excess..........let dry out..........water to excess.........etc.

Any idea what ferts I should look into buying? This is only my second attempt and my first attempt didn't even make it this far :(.

And as for the watering, yeah, I usually let it go until the top 1" - 1.5" is pretty dry, and then I water. This just works out to be about once every 2 days.

i'm organic. i feed mine worm poop and blood, and then worm poop and bone.....pretty much. watering by weight is the only way. learn the feel of them wet and dry, imo.

yea i wait to water mine til the whole pot is light when i pik it up n for nutes u can go with a straight 10-10-10 for the whole grow n u will b fine

i water it til it drips then let it dry out til i squeeze the pot and hear the dirt at the bottom crunch.. i got a lil 15 dollar mositer meter too but im not too sure how accurate it is... 10-10-10 is the npk. or NUTES

Shultz bloom soil would be high in P so that would reduce uptake of N also your not feeding it any N, so im convinced its N def.

I got some fertalizer, 10-10-10, it's all walmart had, I was looking for 10-50-10.

I bought two kinds a time release stick, and a spray.

I have sprayed it for now, and will repot tomorrow. Once repotted should I stick with the liquid spray, or go with the time release stick/spike thing.

Hiya kiddo I arrived just in time. Your plant needs a bigger home. 3 gallon or 11 liters is enough. Buy some mix specially for MJ like roots or happy frog or even Miracle Grow Organic Choice from walmart. You'll need a bag of perlite if you do buy the Organic Choice because its too dense and wet on its own. I use worm castings too. And composted manure or leaf compost. They sell perlite there too. And an all around fertilizer. 10-10-10 sounds ok. But really, any tomato specific fertilizer is good too. I don't like time release pellets. In temps above 90F it can dump ALL it's nutrients at once. Use it in your outdoor garden. Not for this MJ indoor grow. You need a handful of garden lime. That ought to be it. Unless you want to add some Azomite. From amazon.com.

Thanks dannyboy602!

I want to keep the plant fairly small. I'm not growing for mass quantities, just for experimentation and personal. So I want to keep the plant about a foot tall while flowering. I have a 1.5g pot would that work?

What's the best method to repotting without killing the plant.

yea i agree.. looks kinda like N def. cant save the plants that are already yellow but givin it some N will promote new growth...look into fox farm nutes tho.. GROW BIG is great for veg and alot easier than bloodmeal because u can add it in to ur water as u feed.

hey hex in my last grow my plants were 17 1/4" when harvested bud n all if ur not in flower now i highly suggest toppin that baby

hey. Ya man, I'm going to top as soon as she's healthier looking again. Right now I'm 3 weeks into veg, I was going to veg for probably another 3 weeks or so. I was then going to move her to a bigger space. As the box she's in now is quite small.

For my other smaller plants I am going to try out LST, SCroG, and Top/FIM to see what works best.

Alright, So a bit of a delayed update. I've repotted in fresh soil, added some more nutes, and while at least the top still looks healthy the bottom is dying. Here's some fresh pics from today:

Any more thoughts?
