Hmm... So lets say I give my T5 away to my boy and move the 5x5 8 bulb into the 4x4 to start growth.

I should just DIY some?

I ran two Mars II 400s in a 4x8 tent for a year. It performed great when the plants were smaller and i could press the lights. As the plants grew larger and wider, I had to raise the lights to increase the coverage footprint. Veg growth rates slowed a little bit, but by then I was ready to flower them.

If you are open to diy, I have a suggestion for a 5x5 area. post to follow...

That's what I'd do. I absolutely love my Area 51's, but if I had to do it all again, it would be diy for sure! Especially with this (new?) COB technology everyone is raving about. It was a real p.i.t.a. trying to explain to the Mrs. Spending that amount of money on a couple of lights.

I wanted to wait to release this until it was done, but it pertains to your application perfectly. I too have a 5x5 ft area that i need evenly illuminated to veg plants while keeping heat and wattage to a minimum. I just build a 36" x 36" panel, parts list below:

(20) cxa2530 4500k (bin unknown) https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10013316/2250000-cree-cxa2530-60w-4500k-6000lm-cob-led-array $200 total

(2) Meanwell HLG185h-c500b http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Mean-Well/HLG-185H-C500B/?qs=%2bmCJZPMmHFM%2bw04ux59OXg== $140 total

(4) 4.850 heatsinks 36" long http://www.heatsinkusa.com/4-850-wide-extruded-aluminum-heatsink/ $140 total + shipping

it pulls 405 from the wall and will blow the doors off of an 8 bulb T5 unit , panel 1.jpg panel 2.jpg heres an idea of what it looks like

That's massive!

How's veg time? No lanky stretchy plants? How's the heat?

I literally just finished this panel 2 hours ago. Im going to hang it in veg and replace my last Mars II 400 later today. This baby does pull 405w, but its dimmable and runs really cool. even the air coming out of the vent channels is pretty cool.. The goal for the fixture is to be able to BLAST a 5x5 and grow stocky beast plants and cut down on lanky bullshit.

Not tested in veg yet, but ill keep u guys posted, probably in its own thread
