OK, here it is, my Lettuce setup. Ill keep posting with pics until no one cares anymore. :)

Here is the setup, They are in 3 inch net pots, in 55 gallon tubs, the tubs are about 46 inches long and 20 inches wide. There are 4 cobs running the length of the tub, right down the middle. the plants sit right in the middle of 2 cobs which are 3000k and 4000k. This is an aeroponic step up.

The other are under a standard 8 bulb 6400k t5 fixture, the bulbs are 54 watts each.

I will put clear domes over the pots for the first week or so.

This is disheartening, tbh. I was hoping to get a light built for a box of herbs and greens using the citizen 1212 driven really soft. It's theoretically simple to get even spread and it should need only modest amounts of power. My goal is to get a box for herbs/greens and a tent for peppers and maybe some tomatoes. I thought it would be easier to start with the box, but I might be wrong.

Do you guys have experience with peppers and tomatoes under cobs? I'm getting nervous about them responding the same way. How bout herbs? I've dreamt about this for a long time, but I don't want to invest if I can't be pretty certain that it will work. Links?

I live close to the Arctic, so it's indoor or nothing. Well, maybe I can squeeze three months of summer out of my balcony, but it's hit or miss lol.

I just planted tomatoes, basil, lettuce and a some peppers under cobs, well most of the lettuce is under a t5 and all of basil is. I will let you know how it goes.

I'm really looking forward to seeing your results. There's options for lettuce and herbs, it seems. I'm trying to research led strips, some brain bois are doing the hard work lol, I'm sitting back and waiting for a tutorial for dummies. It's strips or t5, but with having to ship t5s a long way, t5 isn't a whole lot cheaper.

Fingers crossed for your grow! How are your temps and how much space have you got?

My lettuce seed in the one gallon pot popped soil

Let's see what happens @OneHitDone this is the same seed strain you were using, the difference will be the type/brand of COB's used.......

I'm just getting more confused with this research. Both of the helio lamps that made lettuce reddish had lower blue spectrum then 2700k cobs.

IF it's blue spectrum that makes lettuce change colour we van never use cobs succesfully in leafy greens.

An Idea: Only use far red (660nm) diods. Highly efficent with cree new XPE.

I at first kicked around the led strip idea. It seems like a good route, and it might be. It just seemed like it was going to be alot of work, and have alot of exposed ends and plenty of randomness. If Amazon is an option, and you are only trying to grow lettuce, T5's are really worth looking into. really like mine. I used it to start all my seeds. It does however pull over 400 watts at the wall. but it is a 2 foot by 4 foot rectangle of light. it really works nice in a 2x4 grow space, I have it in a 4x4 grow space and it works really well.

There are some fancy new t5 light types out, something called superveg or something, its about 30 bucks a bulb, but its suppose to really provide a lot of benefit and growth. i guess it has a heavy UV band in it now.

ok, I made some slight changes to my setup. I have taken my seeds out of my net pots and put them on a tray and covered them with plastic cups. They remain under their existing lighting. Truth be told, i'm not entirely sure the best way to germinate a seed. All my current plants that weren't clones were put in rockwool, then placed on a plastic tray with a clear lid. They seemed to do ok, i just kept them wet every day.

so none of my lettuce seeds sprouted. So I bought germination container with a heating pad. I will try this and see how it does. I am going to put my lettuce challenge on hold until I actually learn to grow something. :)

Lettuce usually doesn't need a heat mat to sprout and doesn't like being planted too deep.
Try again @muleface , even @Evil-Mobo has found success sprouting lettuce lol

what seeds are you guys using? I'll pick some up too. Perhaps we can experiment with different cob techniques and get this to really work.
