My drilling is surprisingly light, it uses Krupp "fluss stahl" barrels (drawn fluid steel) and is a 16ga with a 9.3X72R rifle. It's what's called a "guild gun" and was made in Austria. A friend of my Grandpa's named Walt Sauer brought it back from Germany at the end of WWII. My Grandpa also had a "vierling", which is a 4-barrelled shotgun. I don't know what happened to it, but it was highly engraved and gorgeous.

I have a small collection of "pre-Garcia" (pre-1972) SAKO rifles in .222Rem, .243Win, 25-06Rem, 7mm mag, and .30-06 calibers. They're all tack-drivers, but my favorites are my .222 (which was made in 1951 and is the first year for the .222Rem. caliber) and my .25-06View attachment 3843227

.22 LR is a favorite among spot lighters - shoot them in the head (no exit wound) and then poke a pencil eraser in the hole to stop any leakage & then run them through the ribcage with an arrow. Almost impossible to find if done right.

I believe it might be legal to use a .22 LR for deer in some states (I'm too lazy to research), but excepting an expert shooter I don't believe it to be ethical to do so.

That said, here's a guy I got with my .270 a couple of days ago - by whitetail standards these guys don't look very impressive but for a Sitka Black tail he's a good representation of a mature buck.
Back strap & caramelized onions & mushrooms tonight for dinner.

Mrs. GWN does not like to shoot, absolutely hates firearms but has no problem with me harvesting for us.

Dinner last night was the Bomb! Mustard greens, mashed taters w/ a nice scratch gravy, Backstrap medallions pan fried in a bit of bacon grease & caramelized onions and mushrooms.

One of my best friends got the invite - he's a Geo-bachelor & knows how to appreciate comfort food.
(Best friends are the only kind that get back strap dinners around here. )

Being legal and being ethical are 2 different things. Sometimes laws parallel what's ethical, but not always.

Many of us think its important, when taking life (even for sustinence), to use a caliber large enough to get the job done while causing minimal suffering to the animal.

I'm not doing the same. It about more than just laws. Got to be a balance to hunting. I don't take kindly to spot hunters or poachers. If everyone goes out and kills a shit load of bucks then it will be a problem before long.


The whole deer hunting with a .22 is bullshit to. It is not a powerful round. It has left many a deer wounded just to walk off and die later from infection.

I could give a fuck less about you eating what you kill. It is more than that. There is a reason for hunting seasons.

Go ahead and keep killing large number of bucks and hunting out of season when animals are carrying their little ones.

I want to see my kids have something to hunt. I wont because of assholes like you.

In the 30's and 40's there were virtually NO deer in states like Illinois & Missouri when my dad was a kid - anyone want to guess why?
