Cheap and Cheerful DIY using Citizen cobs

Does anyone know if he had to tap those passive fins to attach them to the structure, or were the holes already large enough for that bolt to be threaded through?

I'm asking because these sell for 10$ while others go for 20+

I would get the heatsinks from cobby, they are higher quality imo and the one mechatronics i held in my hands looks and feels like cheap shit.thats just my personal opinion. The cobkit heatsinks are from ngl and have mounting holes on the top and sides for multiple mounting options. 120mm are good for 50 to 60w easy and the sstx if he has them are good to 100w easy.

Yeah I was going to order those mechatronix ones but I wanted to hear feedback on the quality. Cobby is actually out right now, I was gonna buy some yesterday, and so is ngl I was gonna buy 5 but they only had 3 left.

I figured what the hell is the point of having them if I cant put it all together so I'll just wait. It's not urgent or anything. Cobby do you know when you will be getting in more pin heatsinks?

If ngl is out and cobkits is also out we are all shit out of luck :o
Cutter also sells nice heatsinks, but if you are in the usa it will be some extra cabbage to ship them here

Yeah but I Imagine that they will have some in stock within a month. I'm not paying 50$ for shipping from Australia. Cutters shipping prices are crazy. I get tvs from Japan for less than 50$....

You mean a 3590 at 50-60w right? So 25w of heat.

My doubt is the tc/tj temps of 25 of heat in a v18 or clu038 or cxb2530 in the same heatsink. The difference of 25 heat watts in different led sizes....

hi, I just received a box of mechatronic heatsinks 150x100 look fine so far. there is plenty of holes in back and front, tapped. just hope the
holes match the chips that are coming from cobby. very excited haha.
Yeah I second that, post a pic when you can. The only reason I would rather get them from ngl or cobby is because of the side mounting holes on the pin heatsinks, they give a real clean look to them, but if the mechatronix ones can be set up like in the growmau5 video I posted above then I might give them a shot!

How much was shipping?

I think it is not the best. It is not the top 3500 k of the citi line. This one has lower output then the normal one. The normal 3500k efficacy 152l/W, but the one you orderded is 119 L/W.

The chip you bought is under BBL and i would advise getting the same chips in 3000k and 4000k from the same seller on ebay since they are the normal version. I really hope you are in time to change the chips and maybe otherwise you can trade them in?

Here are the datasheets so you can compare yourself:
Normal version(M2K1) - http://ce.citizen.co.jp/lighting_led/dl_data/datasheet/en/COB_5/CLU048-1212C4_P3700_0516.pdf
Under BBL (H6K2) - http://ce.citizen.co.jp/lighting_led/dl_data/datasheet/en/COB_5/CLU048-1212C4_P3551_0216.pdf

Hi CRI90 version has less lm/w but someone say more PAR than CRI80version...could you or anyone clear my mind??
standard type/on BBL type/below BBL type?!!!
for example which cob may you choose(if any) from the following? 250w(5 COBs) in a 2.3' veg+bloom lamp?
CLU048-1212C4-403H5K2 (4000k- CRI90- 126 lm/W) ON BBL type
CLU048-1212C4-403M2K1 (4000K- CRI80- 153 lm/W) STANDARD type
CLU048-1212C4-353H6K2 (3500K-CRI90- 119 lm/W) BELOW BBL type

help me pleaseee regards!!

id go 3000k or 3500k for veg+ bloom.
if you can tolerate stretching, 90 cri
if youre stretch sensitive, 80 cri
the below bbl are less in both lumens and par, but the par deficit is not as big of a difference as the lumens,

those are good but for equivalent cooling the extrusions are heavier than the pin fins (not an issue for some, but some of the mega/giga etc are beasts.

the holes go all the way thru, part of the extrusion. you can tap or use M3 self tappers to mount on top

@CobKits
So....80 cri has more par and bit more stretch?
