Lol@that price

You can buy multiple 1k watt fixtures and the AC units for that.

Or buy multiple ready made led kits for half that price.

If anyone is actually considering that price tag, I have a bridge for sale, message me.
I agree with your point...they are insanely expensive. Too much so imo. But they are nice lights imo. They grow nice weed too. Part of the issue is the dollar here sucks compared to the US dollar. Still though I agree a bit TOO much for what is involved in making it. I do think they may give good long service though. You rarely regret buying quality though. Not many people hate their Rolex or their Rolls Royce. I'm no LED expert. I admit that. But I do have 3 spectrum kings in my setup amongst gavita's

Spending that kind of money on any light, particularly one that doesn't even list it's components is the equivalent of bending over and asking to get fucked. Absolute garbage, warranty shwarranty, DIY lights and commercially available COB or 561c lights would do as well or better than that monstrosity at 1/4 of the cost.
Depends on where your coming from and where your going....say no more. Tell that to the mechanic who buys Snap On tools. Why do think they sell so well. My HVAC guy....does not use a Home Depot vacuum pump either. Pro's use pro stuff...amateur home tinkers make their own shirts.

Why not wind some transformers and make some HPS fixtures...nice n cheap that way.

Really? So have you done side by side tests to show they perform?

Can you offer a link to your grows so we can see the claimed effectiveness?

Fair point. But to play devils advocate, what are the bulb replacement costs over 7 years on those 50? And how much extra in HVAC costs over the same time frame?
Bulbs @$50, times 7 years = $350
Hvac for 7 years @ .07/kWh on 1 fixture about $1800, if even needed, for 1 fixture.
Total 7 year expense with fixture bulbs and hvac $2450.
The same cost as the SK. But producing upto 2x the weigh. Don't see any LED's producing 3lbs per fixture yet.......

I have yet to see anyone produce 3 lb dry per light in say a 10-14 week crop, a few have claimed but magically never wanted to show their place or their yield although I now have seen close to 2lb produced by the Fluence LED in a 5x5 area and I think $2300 for those is ridiculous, but they are doing that so I had to eat my LED hate pride. Besides you're quoting below wholesale cost on the bulbs. Also there's no guarantee those ballasts will last 7 years let alone 3.

The 7 year argument is a moot point, who knows what the tech will be in 7 years. At the rate of progress Current LEDs will be obsolete in 2 years.....I'm growing for today not in 7 years. HID is an old reliable tried and test tech, Old dog.....same old tricks. Once the high capital cost comes down on LED I'll give them a shot. They have their place in the industry, just not for big poundage. Yet! There is a reason why big producers professional growers don't use LED.

I have yet to see a single fixture produce 3lbs, but a room full of DE fixtures are averaging 3lbs per, it's all about the light overlap. See it all the time. Don't expect to plug 1 in throw a couple plants under it and get 3lbs, never happen. You need some skills.

I think your math is off there. You're telling me that 7 years worth of replacement DE bulbs for the 50 fixtures you posted a pic of is only $350??? even if you replaced them every 12 months they still run 120-150 a bulb, lets say you swung a killer deal and got them for $100 a pop that's 5K a year in bulbs. Over 7 years that's 35K for bulb replacements for those 50 DE units. Even whole sale@$50 thats still $2500 a year or $17,500/7yrs. That's why the 7 years argument is VERY much relevant. LED's can run @ 24/7 for 5 yrs before they start to degrade in output. Now obviously 8LED's of ANY kind will never ever replace 50 individual fixtures of any type based solely on footprint alone. That's why those 2 set ups arent cross shopped by the same person. The only thing those 2 set ups have in common is the price. That's also why it's not an apples to apples argument in the first place when price comparison is brought up.

If the LED's grow weed today how is new tech coming out this week change their performance from that day on exactly? Sure it may not be cutting edge any longer but it doesn't suddenly diminish their performance the instant something new comes out. In 7 years when the LED's start to diminish by around 10%, think of the cool cutting edge LED tech you can buy with all the money saved on bulb replacements. Maybe not commercial grade yet due to price alone, but how many people are running commercial operations? Some places are phasing them in as you can see the savings when you break it down long term across the board. A lot of the higher end fixtures have PAR values that are far higher than HPS.

Bulb Per fixture, your buying at the wrong place if your paying more than $100 per bulb, I buy in bulk at $50 a pop for knock offs, $90 for Ushio de .....

how much to buy 50 high end LEDs? $120k vs $19,000 for DE, that's a huge capital cost to start up, you got $120k sitting around for fixtures? Not going to have a pissing contest over this led vs hid issue.......imo the bang for buck just isn't there yet for me.

This diy led tech is so garbage I decided to waste some more money on it... these are driven by a real 1800w (no equivalency bullshit)

IMG_2419.JPG

In all honesty though, these are homegrower tools - in a large op DE would be a more affordable and simpler option.

Thats the EXACT point I was making in your trying to compare apples to oranges simply based on price and nothing else.

It's all about the cost.....if the LED's were the same price as comparable hid fixtures we wouldn't be having this convo. I would be trying LED for large scale.
