Democratic Senator, Dick Durban: 'We Should Appeal To The Center'

Which regions? I seem to remember him allowing BLM to take the stage. I also remember him speaking with Killer Mike and campaigning in more urban districts. He did very well amongst younger minority voters. The fact is that Hillary just relied on name recognition alone. I don't think that she will do so well if she runs in 2020 against Bernie again. Either way she was a horrible candidate and lost to Trump.
You tell me.

He hardly showed up in the South where his campaign was beaten so badly that he never had a chance afterward. He did show in Flint Michigan where he stepped all over his credibility as somebody who understood racial justice issues. As a Bernie voter that primary, I found his statements embarrassing.

As far as the young black vote, I think we read the same article that made him out to do well with them. But I looked at the numbers they posted and thought "not". In that article, they played up the fact that Bernie polled about 25% of the overall black vote compared to 35% of the young black vote as something of a win for Bernie. Dude, 35% of any group is not something to brag about unless you are looking for something, anything good to say no matter how bad it is. He did miserably with the black vote regardless of age.

Do you always vote for candidates that you find morally objectionable?

Nobody is perfect. I don't dislike Bernie, I just think he's pandering for the white liberal vote and is careful not to offend them by pushing racial politics. I really like Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkely, my state's Senators. Wyden didn't co-sponsor Bernie's healthcare bill and Merkely did. But they are both pretty good. Of course, we have the same problem in Oregon that Vermont does -- we are very white here -- so they aren't really well tested in social equality politics. I don't know how well either would do seeking the presidency.

The same way Hillary expected to carry Michigan and Wisconsin by not campaigning there?

Political miscalculation I suppose.
Your suppositions are already proven worthless. At the end of the election, Bernie talked about how tired white people are about pc rhetoric. This says more about why Bernie didn't get votes from Black and Hispanic voters than anything you "suppose".

I think we're seeing the early stirrings of a political area change in America. It's not going to be a quick skirmish; too many have told the super rich for too long of their 'right' to govern and they'll not relinquish their power quickly or easily.

But the compass is beginning to swing, ever so slowly.

Pray we make it happen before our ship of state ends up on the rocks.

Nice diversion. I repeat:

The thread topic is Dick Durban's 'moving to the center' remarks, which I addressed.

Distract yourself all you want.

The best way to deal with this systemic racism is to not talk about it...

The younger the person, the more they support Sanders, across all demographics.

Just curious, how old are you?

What's funny is that that's how it works generally speaking.. Older generations support more conservative candidates, younger generations support more progressive candidates. Older people tend to vote more often than younger people, especially 18-29 year olds. Every time you bring up the fact that Clinton won more minority votes than Sanders during the primary, you dismiss that glaringly obvious fact that younger people vote less frequently than older people, and attribute that to your belief that that means more minorities supported Clinton's neoliberal policies over Sanders progressive ones.

The same neoliberal policies that perpetuate low wages and no affordable healthcare to more than 20 million Americans..

It will take a modern-day French Revolution (complete with guillotines and public beheadings) to get the rich moving. Kill enough of them (better yet, their spouses, kids, grandkids, etc) and they'll get the idea, money can't save you from death. It saddens me I won't live to see it. That and the famines.

Younger people do tend to be more socially progressive than older people. Are you just finding this out now?

Older people who are more conservative do tend to vote more often than younger people. This is why I say that the only poll that matters is an election poll. Are you just finding this out now?

The reason we have low wages and no affordable healthcare to more than 20 million Americans is because of old white people who vote more frequently and are conservative. Are you just finding this out now?

Congratulations on learning something that's been common knowledge for decades.

A complete and total disappointment in the boomer generation who were drivers for a roll of successes in progressive civil rights, stopping the Vietnam war, ending the draft, enacting environmental protections and stopping the growth of unsafe nuclear power plants is they got older, more religious, conservative and voted Republican. This country has been on a decline ever since. I don't think we disagree here.

Mrs. Clinton lost. Twice. Why all the POWs (centrism is surrender) who volunteered for the role did so can only be answered this way: They're white. Honkies are cowards.
Actually, Ms Clinton won the Democratic party's nomination by gaining the black and hispanic vote by an overwhelmingly large margin. Sanders received about 25% of the black vote and 35% of the Hispanic vote.

The Democratic "honkies"* voted for Sanders, "honky" men especially. Including myself.

Given the choice between Clinton and Trump in the general election, I opted for Clinton. Do you call that a surrender?

Do you accuse black people and Hispanic people who voted overwhelmingly for Clinton of surrendering? I don't. I think they rightly saw Sanders as weak on social equality issues and went with somebody they knew. They went with Clinton rather than an old white man who hardly ever held town hall meetings in their districts or spent practically zero campaign resources in an effort to reach out.

*what an archaic term, are you like 95 years old?

Yeah, that went really well for the French people.

Centrism is surrender. #BringOnTheWar
I'll ask you the same question I asked tty who most cowardly didn't answer it.

Sanders won a majority of the white vote in the Democratic party during the primary. Why did Sanders fail to attract enough black and Hispanic votes to win the nomination? I've given my opinion on why in a recent post to you. Do you have an opinion on why this happened?

About 65% of all black and Hispanic voters in this country and about 45% of all white people voted for Clinton. Do you still think that Democrats who voted for Clinton in the primary should be beheaded? Are you a white supremacist?
