New style Samsung LM561C Board

I just spent the last couple of days reading every post in this thread, and I want to pull the trigger, but I've got a lot of questions, mostly about the driver.

How do I know what specs I need for my driver? I'm undecided between Meijiu/Hansion, and 288/304 led boards. If someone could link to their preferred board that would be awesome. I'm planning to buy four boards at under 400watts total. I'm hoping this can match, or beat the 400w HIDs I've been looking at.

I see lots of people talking about running the LEDs at lower wattage to increase their efficiency, but I aside from maybe adding a dimmer I really wouldn't know what I'm doing.

How necessary are heat sinks? Some people say get them, some people say don't bother. Lots of people seem to be using aluminum u channel, but I don't think I have the means to drill/cut it for use as a mount/heat sink.

I'm looking at Hansion and their page says "We need your PCB Gerber file, board thickness, copper thickness, surface finishing and quantity to quote you." I really don't have knowledge in any of these areas, what am I suppose to ask for?

People say that the lm561c is significantly more efficient than HID, but with 1152 leds on samsung's calculator I get 59652lm / 339.5w = 175.7lm/w. A 400w HPS I'm looking at shows 55000lm / 400w = 137lm/w. A 38.2lm/w difference doesn't seem THAT significant when I've seen people saying a 300w QB is equivalent to a 600w HPS.

The hansion page only needs your pcb gerber file if you want to create your own board through them.
The driver depends on what board you are getting. When you decide you can post back here and there are plenty of people willing to help you out.

I have 4 meiju 304 boards loving them so far im using 3000k full grow veg+flower running without dimmer full power at 520w in my 4x4 tent (you can check my journal) hoping for 1-2pounds.. id say heatsink at that power is mandatory and even then will become hot over time (i never measured the temp but very hot to the touch) ive put some airflow on them and thats fine.. at 400w id still get the heatsink.. meiju has a package with 2boards, heatsink, drivers and cables for something like 130$usd expect to pay a lot for shipping.. but its still cheaper than any brand name.. in terms of lumens.. keep in mind hps is 360 degrees you loose light over the reflexion a lot of it.. there is the spread which is better with the boards.. 400w hps vs 400w with 4 boards.. I think you could get twice as much yield.. also less heat to deal with.. if that havnt convince you maybe someone else will but either they are legit real lm561c s6 or not I think they are the best value product available by a big margin.. and I spent hours and hours of reading before I decided to give it a try and I totally dont regret it! They have been rocking it! Dont overthink IMO its 150% worth it..

QB cooling ... a lot of ppl say "no need for active cooling, passive is fine" ... so far I've found that to be true but only at around ~22°C/71°F and under (ambient/day temps) :)

As i slip here from summer into winter, it seems that if it's ~22°C/71°F outside (or less), then i don't need any cooling, I can run a 2xQB304 @ 100% no problems, with just the passive heatsink doing its job, and the grow chamber never gets about 28°C/82°F. Anything warmer though and supplemental cooling IS required.
There is a video on youtube of a guy trying to kill a QB, he passes something like 5A through it if I remember correctly.

I seriously doubt that the 400 HPS is putting out the 55,000 lumens as the spec states. Real world testing puts 400 HPS@ 42-49,000 lumen output that degrades rather fast.

Because the S5 is visibly different under magnification.
Could you maybe maybe explain how? I thought, from reading this thread, that you could see difference between lm561b/b+/c, but not between different bins within one series. My understanding was that all different bins within one series were manufactured in the same time and way, and that after testing the ones that came out brighter and better were sorted and labeled acording to bin.

But if you can determine a diode is lm561b/b+ you can say its max s5, but could also be s4 etc. I might be wrong, but if you have this info please post it or refer me to where if already posted. Thx :)

Thanks for the info man, I'll be following your grow. Did you say at one point that you're in Eastern Canada? I'm in Saskatchewan, and I'm likely going to get that package you recommended. Do you have the total price of what you paid? What did your customs fee come to? How did the transaction with DHL work? Did they drop it off? Did you have to pick it up?

Yes canada if I recall it was 130$usd for each kit and i got 2 + 130$usd for shiping so close to 400usd all in all it was for sure less than 550cad$

It took 2 days from the time I paid to the delivery so extremely quick which is amazing considering how much distance it travelled.. meiju put a value of 60$ on the package (claimed puting 0 was more suspicious than a low amount which was fine for me) custom came up to 30$cad or around that.. DHL was good they dropped it at my door.. not saying its the best but I have my own house and not worry about leaving packages at my door ive ordered multiple time from amazon and thats what they do to.. if you prefer to be there I guess you could ask them to have a signature required (may be additional fee) but more importantly in my case the dhl warehouse was close to 40 min from my place so I definitively prefered having them drop it at the door.. i gotta say I was worried first the seller are very pushy to get the sales done but at the same time whatever you ask they will respond quickly (or at least it was the case with me) I always got a reply within 24h and if you want to chat more "live" with them consider the time zone difference.. for me around midnight eastern time was the time I was able to live chat with the sale rep..

you gotta get ready Canada is legalizing this year :bigjoint:

How do you pay the customs fee if the just dropped it at your step?
Good question I had forgotten about that.. lol after rethinking it.. yes you need to be there to accept the delivery and pay the customs but once you get the tracking number(cant remember if its only with the tracking number or if its following the first delivery attempt..) you can go on the dhl website and it opens up additional options including the option to pay online for customs and once done you can ask to have them leave it at the door directly from the website.. sounds complicated but its very simple .. it was 4 months ago more or less so just couldnt remember all the details :bigjoint:
