Could You Be Brought Up On Murder Charges For Being A Citizen?

I heard about an old man being tried for mass murder because he worked in Nazi Germany. And this has me wondering, In the future could we end up being brought up on charges as accomplices to murder or war crimes for our complacency in accepting or our contribution furthering the current state of affairs.

If your contributing your income through taxes and their using it to kill people that makes you an accomplice or an accessory right?

I think there is a differance in guarding a prison camp and the government taking peoples money.
Unless you work for the Govt as a prison gaurd, or are in the military or possibly many other areas of employment, around 50% of our country is Govt employees.

It really sucks what this guy was doing, but maybe he had no choice. Either way he is 91 and about to die.

Let him spend his last years of his life peacefully, and making his consience has been kicking him for a long time anyway.

I really don't see it happening, they would have to arrest a lot of people and I am not going down without a fight.

i believe the guys who personally waterboarded should not be held accountable.

i think there was a hierarchy involved, and the guys at the top should take the blame. the guys at the bottom were following orders.

CIA directors, the lawyers who made up the basis for waterboarding, and the guy in charge, George w. bush. they all deserve to be brought to international tribunals to explain why they thought they were ok in violating international laws and treaties of which the US is a party.....

dubya has little to worry about b/c he and his family have a secret service detail as long as they're alive...... lucky bastard.

I respectfully disagree. A little thing called the Nuremburg Trials has put this line of reasoning to rest. The United States of America, Britain and France along with Russia had concluded through the Nuremburg Trials that "Simply Following Orders" was not enough of a defense to avoid corporal punishment. To put it plainly: If it was okay to kill people who were "Just Following Orders" from the war, through their chain of command, then it is okay to kill those who do the same today regardless of whatever logical hand-waving that exists at the present time. I don't agree with any of this but that is the logic. Many countries used this as an excuse to kill people after the war, it is only logical, for better or worse that they are held to their own standards of accountability.

We don't have to worry about the legal court for any war crimes as citizens the USA commits but we have to worry about the court of public opinion.

I actually see an attempt at compassion Berdo.

The USA is guilty of killing innocent people every month as we aim for targets we want to kill.
I'm guessing that age old judge is the God of whatever religion. The Judgement day.
But as a citizen? If you find yourself in Afghanistan or Pakistan I think one would pay the price for us all.

I hope this added to your thread.

who are 'we' and who do 'we' want to kill? who are we after and who in innocent? if you know something is wrong what do you do? Are you innocent if you don't take an active role in the wrong doing? are you obligated to leave and refuse to contribute to the system or to get active within the system to try and create change?
