First I agree with the recommendation for The Union: The Business Behind Getting High. One of the best documentaries I've seen. Many good interviews and they discuss some of the research. If noncommercial streaming is legal in your country then you can search for it on icefilms.info (Legal in the US for now, Switzerland will even let you download it for personal use)

I love the don't grow/smoke weed disclaimer at the beginning. More seriously I'm somewhat conflicted about the show. On the one hand the fact that it exists is a measure of progress. A decade ago I couldn't imagine a mainstream channel like Discovery showing people openly using cannabis, showing stoners successfully running a business, and even discussing how cannabis is grown in brief. They are also giving the DEA less face time then most mainstream cannabis documentaries from the US.

That said, I don't feel that the people depicted on the show are necessarily the best spokespeople for medical cannabis. At times it feels like I'm watching a sequel to Nice Dreams where Cheech & Chong open a storefront, with Chong liberally dipping into the stores stash. I'm not saying that they are not professionals (they run a serious businesses) but being on camera while you use the store like a personal weed bank is bad PR. Acting like a stoner on camera is bad PR. Letting cameras see your infested grow is actually rather brave.

I give them all credit for risking a raid by being so public but I'm on the fence about the show. Still with streaming I'll probably watch the next episode when I'm bored and high.

my thoughts are that it is good to get it out there and let people who dont have access/knowledge about MMJ, to see what it really looks like. they wont go thru with a fine tooth comb cause they dont know what they are watching, like we do.

I am glad to see it on prime time 10pm on a major channel, means we as a movement and a silent majority, are making head way toward legalization/decriminalization

The Soup aired the clip on Wednesday, the show premiered on Thursday, they were able to look at footage that was cut from the show. And after watching both again, everyone is right, He DID eat the edible in the car (on the soup clip) but he did say (on the show) that if he eats them just before he goes on stage it works best, which anyone who knows anything about edibles knows he needed to eat them closer to the 45 minutes early for them to help at all, if he ate them at the start they would kick in half way through the conference.....

Your right, maybe they didnt think we would notice the time it took him to get to the convention? Good or bad its still publicity and we will see alot of action one way or another over the next year.

I enjoyed it for what it was, a show about weed in california, but could not help but be taken aback by their attitudes, and there seemed to be a lot of nonsese being sprouted (quite possbily enforced by the network or such) about the 60 hours a week maintenance and how he was eating hand to mouth etc, seemed just a little off, or jsut had a silly lifestyle he was trying to keep going

Yeah I'm still trying to figure that out. I haven't watched a second of the actual show (minus the muted link and commercials) so I don't really have an opinion yey. any publicity is good publicity. just the fact that this subject matter is being shown openly is a good sign for public opinion. at the same time some of the portrayals of the potheads are stereotypical and do not take into account the wide spectrum of people who use cannabis. but i dont think the show is misleading or lying about the people it is depicting. as for the clip with him eating the edible and driving, i am glad that the producers of the show decided to cut that from the final version of the pilot episode which aired. this atleast goes to show that someone making this program has some level of objectivity.

It's all about the producers and the editing... The could have shown more patients getting much needed relief.. They could have focused things a lil different..The whole program seemed like a giant clip from the Soup.. We have to realize the razorblade edge this movement is on..The people who just aren't sure how to vote..
