How big an area are you covering? Have you flowered yet?
Hey, I don't want to steal the original post, so I will start my own post. My plants are in a 1.5' x 2' x 5' space (Super Locker 2.0). I started with 4 plants, but removed the Berry Bomb and Yumbolt 47 plants because the other 2 got too big. Plants remaining are New York 47 and Kandy Kush. I am about to flower at the end of the week. Here are pics, I will start my own thread for the rest:

Plants, cannabis plants specifically dont require nearly as much light during veg phase as aposed to flower phase, and due to the high par of led's they veg phenomenally under them its in the flowering stage where you require much higher penetration. that being said your plants look good for 2 weeks flowering, however you should consider trimming fan leaves day 28 this wîll increase penetration and allow for fat buds all the way to the bottom of your plants, your def gunna like what you get fromunder 800 watts. Make sure you allow them a minimum of 8 weeks to flower but more likely 10 weeks (strain specific) to get everything possible out of them and you wont be sorry. Peace and Love my friend! Also you might consider selling those and buying multiple smaller wattage pannels (180 or 120 watters) in order to increase coverage without penetraion loss so you can maxamize the number of plants your flowering for the same total watts!

I disagree that buying smaller panels will increase light penetration
Buying smaller panels is for a better and more conservative footprint as well as having a lot of control over the light source. LED panels are very direct lighting, so anything outside of it's main footprint should get some supplemental lighting, or have an overlap from another panel for best success. Of course higher wattage panels will have better penetration. I wouldn't even buy a small panel that is less than a true 150w-200w draw.

@iwantchipz, your leaves look awesome :)

If those were my babies Id chop every one of those fan leaves off! Helps with the penetration for sure! Also cuts back on watering quite a bit. But thats just me, they look great though!

IMO, cutting fan leaves is silly
I use to 100% agree with that till my current grow. I had to cut them to make them all fit and I dont think it hurt them one bit! I actually believe it is beneficial now. I had the notion that whatever little leaves were sticking out of the bud sites were all it needed to keep that particular node growing and it seemed to work out. I was trying to do a comparison originally and just didnt have the space so they all got the chop. Looking at the plants in this thread they are lush and green but it feels like all those leaves are just choking out the bud sites. Just my thoughts, and I do like to tinker and try different things!

I must agree with this, But if its a 60 day strain remove the fan leaves at day 40 - 45 and then double harvest the plant, cut the tops first and let the bottom buds fatten up for another 1-2 weeks depending on the trich colour preference, i like some of my smoke mostly white trichs, but also love amber trichs, its the best of both worlds. With the above technique, noticed that the buds keep on throwing new pistil growth, but when i removed all fan leaves at day 40, noticed that pistil development stopped for about 1 week and then resumed.

If one is going to remove fan leaves at day 30 it actually stresses the plant way to much, it should be a gradual process, maybe remove them over a course of 2 weeks, something like 1 fan leaf every 3 days. Remember reading a article in SoftSecrets mag explaining certain stress techniques actually help the final yield, and them actually mentioned that removing fan leaves gradually is way less stressful then all at once. Its the same concept when it comes to cloning from a mother, i stressed out one of my bonsai mums by taking about 6 cuttings all at once. When it comes to cloning its always recommended not to take away to much foliage at one given time, the larger the mother plant the higher number of cuttings one can take before the plant become to stressful.

Your grow is looking beautiful, keep up the great work man, those blackstars rock, and you will not be dissapointed, currently rocking a 500w blackstar and the smoke and yield out does my 430watt sont argo hps. Im sure you will not be dissapointed.

Peace to all, happy growing, stay safe.

yea DrCanna likes to give random advice like that, example from one of my threads:

"
  • My advice or instruction rather is to get that light closer and closer to the top of your plant until your about 1 inch away, obviously you will lose coverage but what good is coverage if those buds only produce airy nothingness. By getting the light as close as possible you will maximize enetration and develope as much bud through the body of the plant as the light will allow. Treat your spectra and blackstar the same and attempt to lower each every day until they are right

      • on top of the canopy, you will undoubtadly see burning of the leaves and possible bleaching of the top most calyxes, but this is no big deal and should be ignored in light of the benefit of much bigger denser buds, this i can assure you. Second cut off all fan leaves, that is the large single leaf below each branch, and any spindly large fan leaves on very developed branches. Doing this will allow for much better penetration of light to bud sites therefore increasing yields.

ok its been a long time with out an update.....sorry ive been pretty busy. This is day 43 of flowering. im starting to get some yellowing on some plants....the northern lights looks the worst (pic 15). Also im using overdrive and it says to only use for weeks 5&6 and i was wondering if i should flush after that and just use regular water for the last couple weeks? can cal-mag+ be used all the way till harvest? thanks
