during early growth you can get away with lower wattage, i am in a similar situation and just put two rooted cuttings in my closet and have plenty of light on about 100+++watts. 100watts floro equal to around 300 watts++++ incandescent

if you have the money... get yourself a good hydro fertilizer like Sugar Peak (veg cycle) and follow the instructions for soil use. i used this and got great soil use, most brands have a 3 part mixtue veg, flower, and micro. just the veg and flow is enought.
