I would not just leave them with a hope and a prayer as you need something to get rid of the mold. I read about mold in one of the threads that carry a lot of preventative maintenance columns. Keep looking for it as you need to apply something to help them to fight the mold spores.

that sounds more like mold than root rot. I went to the local hydroponics store and picked up some stuff for root rot. Unfortunately it did not have a label on it ( as I got the small pakages instead of the larger bottle) but it is working.
