    Name That Deficiency (Please...)

Thanks, @MichiganMedGrower. I just watered with plain distilled water, nothing added, enough so that there was some significant runoff. Will water with distilled water and nutrients next time -- I have Botanicare Pure Blend Pro Bloom in addition to the BioThrive (I also have FoxFarm Big...

    Name That Deficiency (Please...)

Wow -- I interpreted your first reply as saying there was an overabundance of calcium (and figured that could be causing lock out of other nutrients). I'm a little scared to add calcium since I know my water has too much of it, and if that's the problem, I'll just be making it worse. The...

    Name That Deficiency (Please...)

Thanks. The BioThrive I've been using has no calcium (a big factor in how I chose it); I'm going to use distilled water for the next few waterings at least, hopefully I can get it under control. Thanks again for the help.

And for what it's worth they're SCROG'ed -- the framework is buried deep under the canopy and hidden.

(Neglected to "full size" that 3rd picture... "Edit" button never works anymore... Anyway, there are 3 pictures...)

Hey -- almost 4 weeks into flowering and there's something wrong here... I've been thinking potassium deficiency, but it's not getting better with added nutrients. Pictures first, then all the details I can think of: First, the overall yellowness of the photos is the lights -- homemade...

    Bridgelux EB-series on a 2' x 4' SCROG

Agreed about onlinemetal -- a great resource. When I ordered from them they gave me a great discount on shipping as a first time customer, and have emailed me other good offers since -- worth checking out. Also, good call with the thermal tape! I recently finished my build and used bolts and...

    Bad EB Strip?

Thanks everyone (and sorry for the slow response) -- I agree, that makes a lot of sense, and sounds like the most reasonable explanation. I tried to be gentle with the screws, but I guess I wasn't gentle enough. I've got them installed in the tent now; would you say "aint't broke, so don't fix...

    Bad EB Strip?

Interesting. I suppose the spark could have come from the wire -- it's 18 AWG solid wire, and you can see in this picture (copied from above) that it is relatively close to the screw: I had assumed that it came from the strip itself, but I'll look more closely at the wire for damage. Thanks.

    LED Strip Build Questions

They light; two diodes out on one strip. Pictures and more detailed explanation (of the bizarre failure behavior) on this thread: http://rollitup.org/t/bad-eb-strip.942178/ Barring an explanation other than 1) bad strip and bad replacement, or 2) underpowered driver somehow damages strips, I'm...

    LED Strip Build Questions

Correction: The problem strip is the first of the nine -- at the positive end of the series. I just bypassed it; runs fine with eight strips.

    LED Strip Build Questions

Okay, suppose we go with the reasonable theory that if there isn't enough voltage, then the strips won't light up, but it can't do any damage. Is the only other explanation anyone can come up with for me is that I had a bad EB strip, and the replacement strip also happened to be bad (in a very...

    LED Strip Build Questions

Yeah. But I have one panel with 9 strips working fine, and the other with the 9th strip failing. I don't expect any problems if I remove a strip from the working one, and if I remove the failing strip from the panel giving me trouble, I expect that to work fine as well -- my only two theories...

    LED Strip Build Questions

For the record, I think I have found that the HLG-120H-C700 will not power 9 of the 22 inch EB strips. Although the driver is rated to 215V and the strips are rated as having a "typical" voltage of 22.1V at 700mA (and 9 x 22.1 = 198.9), that's at 50 degrees Celsius, which is pretty hot. They...

    Bad EB Strip?

Ugh. The short story: I replaced the "bad" strip, and got just about the same behavior. I tried to measure the voltage across a strip at startup, but it's tricky -- you have to be quick, because the strips heat up fast, and you're trying to look into a multimeter that is essentially backlit by...

    Bad EB Strip?

Hate to say it, but that makes sense to me. I'll put the multimeter on it when the replacement comes in and I'm working on it again. The coldest it's likely to ever get in my grow tent is maybe 60F, so hopefully that's warm enough to keep the voltage requirements under 23.8V per strip (which...

    Bad EB Strip?

Good idea; haven't tried that. But I built two, same components, and the other one is working fine, so I don't really think that's the problem. Anyway, for now I am sitting back and waiting for the replacement to arrive; if I have problems when I install that one, then I'll start thinking...

    Bad EB Strip?

The 22 inch strips have a max current of 1400 mA, so there's no problem there.

    Bad EB Strip?

Yeah, the strips each draw 22.1 volts at 700 mA. I didn't specify the model number because all the 22 inch strips have the same power requirements (the only difference between them is the color temperature; these are 3000K). 9 strips at 22.1 volts each is 198.9 volts, which I think is far...

    Bad EB Strip?

I feel the same way about DigiKey -- a real pleasure to deal with; the two people I spoke to had brains, senses of humor -- nothing like the typical customer service rep. As far as my bad strip goes, there was no evidence of any mishandling, and I'd just as soon believe that it was bad when it...
