alright so these are not my pics, but here are some crazy hop/cannabis grafts to look at. just a bit of motivation for all those crazy experiments

thanks to kalyseeds from grasscity for these:

Hey All-

bb.jpg
Here's the BB plant, sprawled out and doing well. I stated this earlier, but just wanted to repeat it again, that the 3 cuttings that were placed on this plant, passed.

graft.gif
A good illustration of a couple cuts to perform on the root stock and cutting. I performed the one at the right.

Here's the P. Romulan attached to Pineapple Chunk. Doing okay, with some stress, but as expected. MUCH, much better looking than the three I originally started.

Here She is, with the bag and Teflon removed. I decided to research as much as I could on this and found that packing Vaseline around the wound is a good step (only to the exterior). So maybe my thought on the air was incorrect, maybe it doesn't need the air? I feel keeping it moist would be key and by having Vaseline on it, would help "lock" the moisture in, as a protective layer. I will still keep the bag on, it was removed for picture day.

Also, the Clothes pin is a good idea, due to the simplicity of attaching it in one motion. It is ideal on how it puts pressure on a small spot, like the stem of a Marijuana plant (I know that's why clothes pins were invented). It would press both sides, at the spot where it needs it the most, the exposed cuts. And this coupled with the Vaseline...we may just have success on the horizon in the VERY near future!

I figured since I was in the Grow Show, I should at least snap a photo of something...here are the children of Pineapple Chunk.

Thank you all for following this.

yeah i've also heard honey works on broken stems. interested to see how the clothespin method works, might have to give this a try myself at some point. i wish you good luck and plentiful bong rips bongsmilie

I elect you curious to garden, to make the phone call to the dispensary and find out lol. Your in socal lol.:peace:
Yes I am in So Cal, up in the Mojave as a matter of fact. But what am I supposed to ask a dispensary? For the most part dispensaries down here do not grow. They simply sell bud they buy from growers. There are some dispensaries that grow I suppose. But the entire reason I started growing was because I didn't want to purchase buds from unknown sources and unknown grow methods. I grow my own and have zero affiliation with dispensaries so just which one should I call and start quizzing on their cloning methods LOL and do you seriously think any would answer instead of hanging up on me? LOL

I find this entire thread interesting and I'm not being hateful about it in the least. I don't understand the negative reaction because there's nothing negative on my part. What I'm saying is there's a difference between grow methods for production and grow methods for research.

I think the research is very valuable. I'm interested in hearing what comes from it. I was just saying that to my knowledge that grafting isn't an effective production method used in mainstream annual production. But for research I'm in and can't wait to see his results.

Oh and if he can prove this is supportable and scalable I'd definitely use it. Oh and it would be very cool if he's successful.

Just call and ask how long before you should get a new mother plant. Or just post a number and ill call lol maybe i should just start a thread....

So hows the girl doing?. I was looking over your pictures and i have an idea for you, i would be doing this right now but im way to scared of catching mights from other gardens. Everyone i know has those bastards except me. Heres what i was thinking.image.jpgimage.jpgthe first picture is the plan in action. The pictures that you were showing me of your grafts look like theyre right through a kind of knuckley spot. Right above where im holding the pen is where id try it. Dont know if you can tell but thats not the main top of that plant, but its close. Its a nice strong branch anyway. Also i would wait untill your plants are a little bigger maybe? The bigger she is, i would think the better chance of success, just a stonger circulatory system pumping to try and pump straight into a foreign limb. Just a thought. Happy holidays

dont know if this has been said but thought of one possible down side just now. different plants strains require different amount of nutes....but you have multiple strains growing through 1 set of roots. unless your going to foliar feed each section differently this COULD become a possible issue right?

I think it "COULD" become a problem, i dont think it will just because i have faith in the inner workings of the plant to correct deficiancies. Plants decide what gets in and what stays out so it will probably figure it out on its own as long as the base plant is healthy. I feed two totally different size plants, different traits, different flowering times, same exact age, the exact same nutrients and they are both healthy as an ox. They didnt have foliar feeding when old ass italians brought trees over on the boat with three different kinds of apples hanging off of them. I think it will figure it out.

Ninja-

Love those ideas. I agree, and I will try it. At this point...I have FAILED! Do not, and I mean DO NOT start sensitive projects while the holidays are upon you! I was pulled away from my operations and things went south. I did not expect to be pulled away, but with family and kids around, it's not like I can announce "Hey I have shit growing, that needs to be attended to".

My cutting dried up and died...two days without attention.

So, I will start the operation back up until I succeed.

Pictures should be flowing come the 26th along with data. PLEASE don't stop following this Op, it will bear fruit! I should be back on the forums a little tonight and back heavy on the 26th!

Enjoy the holidays!!

Thanks for asking

I haven't dabbled in these experiments...although I may give it a go this summer once I get my hands on some hop rhizomes in the spring....its just a matter of getting a healthy enough hop vine - and at the time I only have 1 dying rhizome in a pot salvaged from another location...so we'll see how that goes. I will definitely be visiting freshops this year to get some new rhizomes...cascade, columbus, citra, and nugget I am thinking...but maybe more we will see :blsmoke:

If I have a vine to spare this summer I can promise you I will be giving it a go...and of course the attempt will be documented.

Glad to see this thread alive and well, hope everyone enjoyed the holiday :)

I'll be on the following for sure. ANYTHING different, challenging or just goes against the grain, I will be first in line to attend. The more failures that occur the quicker the expert you become. So when we take on these adventures, it us @ RIU that will be leading the way :blsmoke:

We are the "Garage Scientists", the underground, and the more we experiment with and share/communicate here @ RIU, the more we will reap the the rewards of our labor.

So share, communicate and above all...BE DIFFERENT!

Hey Rainman I think this is a great idea and I have wondered if this would work for future mothers for me, I'm along for the ride and wish ya the best of luck! Ill smoke some hash to that bongsmilie

im going to say this.. ive done it plenty of times.. mainly for moms.. when plant count becomes an issue.. what i was doing was.. taking a flowering plant.. harvesting it .. and i took about 20 strains on 3 stalks.. what u need to do .. is go and get yourself some grafting wax at the garden store.. and make sure u cut ur clones. put into water.. cut them under water.. and go str8 into clonex.. then str8 into the stalk on the main plant.. all in 1 fast motion. the quicker u do this . the better the chance of life.. then make sure u have some ANTI WILT.. ready in a spray bottle .. spray ur clones that are now grafted to the host plant.. put a freezer bag over it.. for a couple days.. taking the bag off every day to exchange the air.. and spray the clone per say.. if needed.. honestly.. since a big flowering plant can have some huge branches... what i would do .. is like 5 of each strain.. because the strike rate on this is very low.. so u mite get 1 .. so i basicly made my flowered out harvested plant with some fan leafs on it left.. and thats it....... back into a vegging plant lol using clones for branches.. most of the branches die off .. but i got a decent amount to strike.. only working with 3-5 strains per host plant. so ur doing 15-25 clones on to each host.. and ull hopefully end up with enough branches to make urself a mother that can be grown as 1 in a plant count.. were u could have 5 strains.. so it works nice..
