@goodro wilson Dimmed all the way down to 10%, you could keep them just a few inches. At anywhere above 50% power, you want 12-18". Get the diffusers and reflectors and 18" at full power would be great, I'm sure.

You must both be from the mitten, @sixstring2112. :) My girlfriend talks about Hoodrow Wilson all the time.

18" with diffusers. Hmm. With my 75 deg lenses 18" gives me a 27.6" beam size.
My lights are spaced 15" apart.
I really need a par meter

I think a 75° lens is a pretty tight beam. You run the risk of burning them with the intensity at anything less than maybe even 2ft. Unless your specific situation calls for very tall, leggy plants, I'd almost think running them without lenses would be optimal.

One of the great benefits of many cobs is a variety of point sources - light from many different angles hitting your plants. Focusing all of that light narrowly downward might be detrimental, but I'm sure you'll figure it out either way. :)

I have a light mover. So even if it's
Moving 12" or so I should be good at 18" above canopy and closer.

PSUAGRO is using the lenses on one of dans prototype lights with each
Cob at 100w and he's very close.....too close but still doing alright.

With the mover I should be good

Nice thread on Timber kits. I am looking at possibly the 4 light kit. Anyone using COBs have a comparison between growth and electricity use versus using prior HPS/sodium lights?

theres tons of info on this site about your questions.but yes i have 15 cobs set up in a 4 x 6 area pulling about 550w that used to have a 600hps in it.these cobs cover waaaaay more area evenly and are not putting out as much heat from what i can tell.the plants looks very happy.mind you i paid 4 x as much for the cobs but im guessing my yields will go up with the better coverage and i wont have the 2x a year lamp replacements i been doing for years.this spot im using for the cob demo used to be the hottest spot in my garden and now its the coolest.so im convinced ill save a ton in cooling as well.

yeah with a mover you should be able to get as close as just a few inches with no problems as long as your stop times are short like 10 seconds or less.i been using movers for a good 5 years with 600w lamps and i set em for 1 to 2 sec stop times so they are basically always moving and i can get them almost touching the buds with no bleaching.

Thanks. Are each of your 15 COBs 50 watts each? I debating on building 4 100 watt COBs or 4 50 watts for about 4 big flower girls.

Nice job @RainDan and Timber! :) Your pre-wired COB kits helped me produce this on my first grow:

And this:

And this is the 2nd round, different strains. Had to take the reflectors and diffuser lenses off because these new strains stretched a few inches more than I could handle, but it's still looking mighty fine.

Man! Great job you guys!

I'm having a few issues getting used to a new soil mix I'm trying, but I'm taking pics and I'll be posting a photo journal in the coming weeks!

I LOVE having the option to drive my Timber Grow Light harder! I just got through vegging with the dimmer almost all the way down to ~10% of the total potential and the light almost sitting on top of the plants....I got used to seeing everything that way for the last few weeks....THEN I raised the light and turned the dimmer up to ~50% after I transplanted them into the mesh bags....WOW! The power!!! And when the time comes to flip to 12/12 the light will eventually graduate to full power.

Timber Grow Lights!!!! YEEEAAAAHHHH!!!
