24/24, has anybody tried a 48 hour cycle???

Plants are not like a ni-cad battery. They are like humans, a carbon based life form that takes in a certain amount of fuel before it has to expel it by some means of energy transfer. So since our planet hasn't evolved around a 48 hour light cycle then that idea won't work. It might for a short peroid but like you they will eventually give up and be so exausted, then die.
It used to be said that 24 hour veg' was pointless as plants could only photosynthesise for 18 hours max'... I think it was Jorges Cervantes who was the biggest shouter of this 'fact'.

Although I think I agree that giving a longer light cycle will cause the plant to reveg' itself. I was thinking hard about this when a sudden memory occurred to me.

I remember force flowering some feminised grapefruit. I gave them a 24 hour light period by mistake... the pistils that were there went brown, and flowering was delayed for around 3 weeks. Nightmare, how could I forget.

a longer darkness does not help at all.

i believe a longer exposure to daylight per cycle does not help either. i think it would simply allow the plant to grow a little more (veg) but at the same time, throw the plant into a weird half-veg half-flowering timing. it would probably grow just fine, just unnecessary.

im no biologist, but there's no way it could be amazingly beneficial, if not damaging instead. haha

edit: lol. i agree with what the post before me. i just read it after i posted. lol.

My hypothesis...

vegging a plant, under 24 hours of light for 30 days, and switching to a 24 24 cycle, 24 hours light on 24 hours light off... would cause the plant to flower itself on a time cycle that is double what it's accustomed to, should lead the plant to flower longer, I imagine double. resulting in copious amounts of bud that have had more time to mature and develope.

I could be way way offf.. but I'll give it a go next time around unless someones up for it now.
logically it would make perfect sense then again scientificaly and mathmatically (yes i said math...think about it...EVERYTHING is science...and science is just math...) would also make sense...im on my first grow and i just hit a HUGE fuck up on my part but im planning on scrapping this grow and starting over with some bought seeds and i might take some clones and try this out if possible...give yall a complete grow report on both batches (with regular lighting and with 24/24) if youd be interested

im not sure exactly which one, buuuut......
after 11 hours of darkness or light, the plant will only uptake about 20% of the energy it was taking during the first 11 hours

I wish this thread would have kept going and someone would have tried this experiment (with proof). I might try my hand at it one day.

So, I was thinking about this the other day... we put our plants in a 12/12 cycle to induce flowering, however we vegged with the lights 24/0 and it got me thinking, if instead of using a 24 hour cycle we used a 48 hour cycle. I figured that if the plant thinks that each day is 48 hours, it would give itself a good 4 months to finish flowering. just an idea, I'd do it with the girl we got now, but we already kicked her into 12 12, but if someones got it like that, it would be great to see what would happen or if anyone has tried it in the past. to see what happend.

You don't 16/8 in veg? :O

I growing 24/0 and flowering 24/24, (50-50% light/dark) flowering time 8-10w.
(400w/400g) (co2 start with light)
But u will longer flowering time? Take more ligt, maybe 60-40%.
U must end? Take 40% light 60% dark...
