So I walked into the grow room about midway through dark cycle and saw the light on, found out I had a faulty timer. I'm not sure how long this has been going on but it sure explains a lot of the longer flowering time ive experienced. I fixed it and set it up with a working timer.

As long as you attach the chains rightly and make sure it is secure of course it will hold the lights. Its been done for a long time. Your two idea sound good, I am guessing you are setting up some type of perpetual system.
About the MH and HPs, yes as long as the ballast is digital and allows both MH and HPs then it is fine. Standard or older versions will not use both.
Best of luck!

Yikes. FYI, I know this is your first grow but I replace the timers every year. Something about the humidity in the grow rooms and the amp draw from the HID blows the contacts quickly. I also use the best quality I can buy, but they are all made in China, so that doesn't mean much. I know other growers that don't ever have an issue, but they are less than $10, so I consider it maintenance like replacing HID bulbs at the appropriate hour usage. Better performance - less headaches.

Light is so important right now. I hope they recover for you soon.

You like cool things. You might look into a more sophisticated climate control in the future. I thought seriously about getting one but I want a TCPIP hook up so I can monitor from my smart phone. Tied to a computer, wouldn't it have been nice to receive an email or text that your light is malfunctioning or you temps were too cool for the time period? One day I shall have it. Lol!

Sounds like the ultimate grow setup lol. I will leave you to playing with that while I test out these LED's...then we will swap!

Now that's a plan. I know Slip is pretty happy with his results so far. If you can just keep your light turned on you should see some good results! ;-)

a normal 6 millimeter tick chain can take 1500 Kg a harden chain can take 3x that

the chain on my HPS light was 4mm tick and my light weighs 18kg, no problem, Im sure I could hang 10 of them in that chain with out a problem, tho sealing might not last

I daily lift 2,5 ton (2500Kg) machines at work, with a crane that can take 5 ton`s and is made out of 10mm tick steal wire

I had a cheap one fail on me last year, just stopped tuning, so light stayed on, no biggy, was in Veg, but I stopped buying them cheap once as well, as prospering said, all cheap, but my local "Walmart" both have them 5$ really cheap once and some 12$ for outdoor (I guess waterproof) and also seem`s like they are more steady/robust build and have a 3 pin plug, so I decided to invest the 7$ more on the expensive one :D tho last time they where out so had to settle, keeping a eye on it, running my extra light for 6 hrs a day

also once fucked it up myself, some how I must have hit one of the pin`s on the timer (in the dark cycle)

dunno for how long, maybe a week maybe only a few day`s but I had 15 minutes light on in the middle of the dark time doing flowering !!!

thanks God I have a wireless term/hydro meter, and notice the temp`s jump a few, found the light on and discovered and corrected the "mistake"

but with out the wireless thermometer and the pure luck of checking it at the right 15min. doing lights out it could have run all of flowering, guess that wont work with the LEDs

I found one thing in life to be true "Buy cheap, buy twice", and when you're growing cannabis you should always use outdoor or equipment made for growing. Components that are made specifically for growing indoors are usually made to a higher degree of standards and if you are gonna buy things from local wal-mart type stores it is best to buy timers and other such things that are made for outdoor use the high humidity and heat from your grow won't effect them as much. I messed up a couple of grows just by having messed with my timer and not knowing it. I bought a digital timer that has 4 outlets and I can set two different cycles on two different zones(2 outlets work in one sequence the other 2 in the second sequence) It was admittedly more than an outdoor timer from wal-mart, but to me it's just worth not ever having to have that in the back of my mind. If you check the back of the timer or on the box it came in it should tell you how many watts it can handle, sometimes you can put a splitter on them and run more than one device on the same schedule. I suggest going and buying what you need, but you can piggy back them like that.

I run a wireless thermometer too. It sits on my computer desk right next to my monitor. I can see where that could save me one day like it helped you. Wish it had an alarm light my fish tank temp gauge does.

Ill bring an update in a few days, so far flowering is offically started on all the plants lol... after a few months of it slowly building up. Its amazing what one night of full dark can do. The buds grew noticeably in just one night of it. Ill bring pics when i get a good shot of them.

Here is a nice cola that has been forming under the LED. It is really beginning to flower well now that darkness is fully underway. It is huge.

Buds coming in nicely. Should start smelling pretty nice in there soon. We will see if your carbon filter setup is working!

Make sure you have good airflow at the canopy and soil level at this stage.

Leaves are curled down, usually heat related, but sometimes Potassium and Magnesium deficiency from the veining, brown spots, and down curl.

You also have some up curl that could be heat related. Try to keep her green and happy but I know it's hard at this stage.

Okay everyone, looks like pics will be a few days. I cant seem to get a good shot of the canopy at all. Until then enjoy this one.

The only picture that does them any justice at all would be the third one, the lighting is far too bright.
