http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photosynthesis ......> "Photosynthesis (from the Greek φώτο- [photo-], "light," and σύνθεσις [synthesis], "putting together", "composition") is a process that converts carbon dioxide into organic compounds, especially sugars, using the energy from sunlight.

It was itching me. I had to prove my point and hopefully relieve myself. Here's an older post of mine, but it somes up what I have to say :

"By removing the fan leaves, you're removing the most prouctive part of the plant above the soil. Sure, we obviously saw a picture of buds grown on a plant with no fan leaves. But keep in mind the plant would have been much greater had he not removed the very unit of production. How does a plant live? Photosynthesis. Where does photosynthesis take place? Surface area of the plant that receives light. What part(s) of the plant hold the most surface area? Leaves. Healthy, green, full leaves. Take away what the plant uses to grow and it'll, well, not grow. You can show me as many pictures of hacked up plants missing fan leaves as you want, the truth is all of those plants have been robbed of their true potential. You can also try to argue with me but you can't argue with science. Have different ideas about how a plant grows? Take it up with mother nature. "

Seriously. I had to share this again. Bla Bla I know. I KNOW. You don't have to re-think science everytime it's brought up. It's how a plant works. Take it or leave it. Final word : Removing fan leaves to produce heavier yield is not only counter-productive but also goes against how the plant naturally grows. A (marijuana) plant will produce as much foliage as it can in order to use as much light as it can. Taking that away is ludicrous.

Ok well tell me why my lower branching branches were dying because they werent receiving enough light, then when i cut quite a few of LARGE fan leaves above it, they GREW HUGE and started producing more bud spots with bigger tops??

If your plant receives PLENTY of intensified light then fine, but if not thats the fact think logics over science sometimes Doc.

The same yield just ended up distributed over more tops that weigh less rather than fewer tops that weigh more. You can't change my mind. A healthy plant is a plant that still has it's leaves. You should try a staggered harvest instead of cropping stuff off. Let the upper most portion finish off and then leave the rest of the plant to finish flowering after that.

Science is logic, what are you talking about? There isn't much you can do to change it either. Removing a portion of leaves so another can come up and replace it seems illogical if anything. Why go through the motion when it's going to even it's self out anyway? Unless you're one of those that just keeps hacking leaves and hacking leaves. Than you have nothing left to work with. The plant can't do what it needs to live.

I dont cut off ALL the leaves dude. I cut the big main ones off and leave the smaller ones where theres bud spots or lots of good light. Its the same w/any plant. You have to prune them to keep em healthy. If me cutting all that foliage out made my budspots pop everywhere, then I would stay w/it but apparently you want BIG STRONG HEALTHY LEAVES, Ill take the BIG healthy buds thank you

The "Big Main Ones" are what you would call the fan leaves. All you're doing is removing the largest parts of the plant that can use light. It's not arguable, it's science. There isn't changing my mind because there isn't changing the way the plant will grow. I'm taking you as I've taken the other people that have argued : misinformed and doing what works because you're afraid to try other things and fail.

There should never be a reason to cut off the big fan leaves. Simply push them under the budsite if you think there isnt any light getting to the budsite. Unless you're lollipopping to scrog, cutting major fan leaves is a no-no

Past that fan leaf pruning should be limited to removing leaves touching the grow medium, leaves that are about to fall off anyway (very little of those for me) and if you need to prune the bottom 2-3 inches of the stalk to promote adequate airflow from the under-growth through the canopy in crowded spaces.

Oh and I didn't metion the stink. It's a nice sweet smell. I inadvertently chose very fruity strains. Not so much the G13 though. I'm starting to like The Black now. Not that I didn't before it's just that I was grumbling about her pheno being more stretchy than I would have liked. Anyway her over-lankiness is being made up for in bud mass. All those big gaps are getting filled in day by day and the top cola will be beautiful by harvest time.
