Hey guys, I am planning my next grow and I am wondering what is the preferred light for a 4x4 tent. I have the choice between 600HPS, 1000 HPS and 315CMH. Thanks!

For my 3x3 I run a 600 watt blue mh/hps so for your 4x4 I would say the 1K watt is a good choice. However we really do not have more info like your budget etc. (2) 315 CMH would do well in there too. I would try and run AC hoods as well. Also depends on the heat where you are too......

Good luck

cmh is the way to go,, i swiched over to a 315 watt cmh after growning w hps and mh for 20+ years,,, saves on electric and grows great weed big buds.. a 315 watt cmh can cover a 4x4 at 3ft above canopy, at 2 ft above you get better bud growth but it only covers a 3x3.. 2 315's in a 4ftx4ft might be overkill,, i run 2 315's over a 4ftx6ft table and get 1.5gpw

yes im a hydro grower.. my veg room is a 2x4ft flood n drain table covered by a 315 watt cmh, does way better than a 400 watt mh ever did.. my bloom is a 4x6ft f&d table w/ a 50 gallon rez.. i grow in rock wool blocks, and use general hydroponics maxi series.. ive used 3-400 watt hps, 2 400 hps +1 400 watt mh, then 2 600 watt hps, and one run w a 1k hps above... never got over a gpw,, switched to two 315 watt cmh and hit 1.4 gpw on my first run,, 3 315 watt cmh over the 4x6 table hit 1.5 gpw,, now i have 2 315 watt cmh and 2 100 watt go green citizen led's over the table, 830 watts total and average 1.6 gpw on every run...

I can cool with my exhaust fan

This will be my second grow

I want as much as possible
When you say as much as possible, do you mean as much as possible without sacrificing any quality or you are willing to sacrifice a certain amount of quality to get the biggest yield possible? How much are you willing sacrifice quality for yield?

As much as possible of some nice weed. I didn't know there was a way of getting more yield and sacrificing quality other than picking a different strain. Please tell me, I am curious.

Depends on your level of experience.
If a new grower or someone with a few grows under his belt uses 600W hps he will likely get a smaller yield of a higher quality weed versus the 1000W hps where he may get a bigger yield but quality can suffer to various degrees. Also with more problems likely to arise from the bigger plants higher demands your yield may end up worse than the 600W yield.
An experienced grower using 1000W can shrink this gap to almost getting the same quality as an experienced grower using a 600W hps. Some may say that they use 1000W and get the same quality as those using 600W. Might be true who knows.

Since you are only cooling with an exhaust fan, a 1000w light will be putting out way too much heat if you plan on closing your tent, giving you a lower quality final product and probably sacrificing your yield as well. A 600w light might still run a little hot in a zipped up tent but it should be manageable, giving you a good final product with a good yield. The 315 CMH might not yield quite as much in your tent, but your final product would most likely be of higher quality and you would save you almost 50% on your electricity bill.
