600w viparled GSC grow journal

Wow. Didn't think I'd be back here. Been 2 years. As the title suggests I'm starting a new grow. Fed up with buying shite.

I have some gsc seeds from a friend. I have sprouted 10 seeds which I will veg under 2x65w 6400k cfl. I'm currently on day 3. I placed seeds straight into peat pellets. They all sprouted the next day. I am going to reduce this number gradually to 4. Gonna be using 11.7ltr smart pots.

As for flowering I have spent the last few weeks looking at led grow lamps and have settled on 2x300w viparled panels. I have about £150 to spend on a light and for my money these seems to have the best true wattage @ 180w per panel. They are 3w diodes and have a 10 spectrum range including IR. I know there is a lot of negativity surrounding non big brand leds but I have seen these is action and they perform well. Plus I am only going to have 4 plants in end so these 2 should give me more than enough coverage.

My tent will be here Monday along with the panels. I have built a small box from some scraps I had lying about in the mean time. Have the 10 sprouts in a propagator with 24hr light (only 1x 65w) which I will reduce to 18/6 once I move them into larger pots and the tent. I'll add some pics of my space that I'm hiding it all and my plants tonight. In middle of clearing it all up. I have a 0.75x0.75x1.8m tent. 4" can filter and axial fan and a variable speed controller for stealth. I have a 6" clip on fan for air movement. Will be using multi purpose compost with about 30% PERLITE mixed in. And Dutch pro nutes range. Will not start on nutes till late in veg or early flower.

Anything I've missed I'm sure will be pointed out. Just gonna try keeping things simple. Hoping to get some nice phenos from these seeds. My pal has managed some nice smoke out of these and he gave me 60 for free. I am gonna have to sex them which may be the only downside. But if I get a solid female I will take a few cuts and try keep a mother, save on the process next time around.

Ok so here is a pic of seedlings and their box. Made from some spare cladding I had left from building a garden shed and painted white. Is only a temp home so not too worried. There were a couple light leaks but sorted them with some white mastic :). Will post updates daily if I can. There is also a pic of the cupboard being used to hide tent.

I'd veg them out till you can clone, then flower the clones and you still have the full veg time going. Some will be male some will be sub par. So you're throwing a tent in the closet, interesting set up. Btw you avi is impressive

Reason being I have kids. Last thing I need is them coming in the bedroom and asking loads of questions about the noisy black box. I am gonna vent straight out the top into the non existent loft space. So fresh air from the room as passive intake. It might work. It might not. This is an all new setup for me. I'm on a small budget but not too small. Total setup has set me back about £300. I hear you on the constant veg. Was thinking the same thing myself. Just don't wanna get stuck with same strain for ages. I'm only a recreational user so build up a tolerance quite a bit. The seeds are a 3rd gen inbred. My pal has been going at it about a year now. Lot of hermies the first batch. Second set weren't as bad. He grew 50 out and only 3-4 changed. I'm hoping they are pretty stable genes now on the 3rd set. I know they are risky as he ain't a proper breeder but he did get his genetics from a reputable source. I have some other bag seed and 6 fem Amnesia if it all goes terribly wrong. Have a stock of about 250 at minute. Sure ill get through them. ☺

Vipar have got quite a bad rap. Of all the generic panels they were best I could find within my budget. Even the 600w vipar panel only uses 310 true watts. At least this way I'm getting an extra 50w. I will see how they perform. If they don't do well I'm gonna build myself a 600w cob panel. Didn't wanna go straight to diy. Can get full spec 100w cob panels for £35 or so if I remember rightly. Thanks for stopping by. I'm looking forward to it too. Last real grow was 18 months ago and I pulled 4.5 oz off a ww in dwc with a 250 hps.

I have a mate thats got 2 of the 180W Vipars and in the one very thrown together basic scrog he attempted he got over 4 oz from a 1m sq scrog with just 1 of the 2 lights but he ended up having to chop early n store everything away for a few months, he has just this week pulled them back out the cupboard but is now only going to be using them for veggies, so dount i will ever get to see what they will do with weed properly lol

I will see how they do under the cfl for a couple weeks. May do 2 weeks veg under 1 of the led units before adding the second panel and flowering them. They seem to do Ok in veg. Only time will tell I suppose. Been going through old equipment and have found a 45w red and blue cheap panel I got a couple years ago. I have added to the box they are sprouting in. See if it helps. ☺

Lost one last night. Was limp all day. Another pic on day 4 :)

EDIT: my other 65w cfl turned up today. I have a fan on them from a few feet away to stop temps going too high. So they now have 175w total light. We will see how they respond to double the light :)

So my smart pots turned up today. Not as big as I thought but hopefully big enough to see me through flowering. Had to water heavily last night as their peat pots were really dry. Like to try and keep them moist

Right, I have repotted them all today so they have room to grow a bit. Noticed some nice purple shades under the first set of leaves on about 5 of them . Most have started on their second set so hoping they start to pick up a bit now.

Looking good. Believe they are 5 days old. They will go to 18/6 light schedule tonight. First night of darkness for them. I have also turned the led panel off. It's pointless. Would rather use the 45w on a fan

So my tent arrived today. Annoyingly it's the wrong size. I ordered 0.75x0.75x1.8m and I have ended up with 1.0x0.5x1.8m same floor space just oblong rather than square. Not gonna wait to return it as I'm already growing so fuck it. Will post pic in a bit once I have made my scrog screen and cfl light fixture. Led panels should be here monday

Bonjour
Since your pannel are not square, i think this kind of shape gonna fit well with your vipar...
Maybe this mistake is going to benefit you...
But after all the post you have reading, here, why didn't you went directly for diy? How much did you paid for this 180w pannel?
Have a great day ★

£68 each for these panels. I got 2 of them. My budget was a bit tighter a week ago. I had £300 for everything. Now I have an extra £300 for the diy light. And I agree that given the shape with rectangular panels it will give me better coverage. One of the other guys on here ssjGemini, drew me a 3d model of the cob I'm building. I'll share. I should have all parts by time it comes to flowering. These so they may well be a switch out. Who knows. Let's see how the leds perform on these vipar panels

I saw ssjgemini work..it is very impressive. A very well done job and it would have been awesome with 3590...but I assume that you are going to do it and maybe I will too since I have aluminum sheets and that I have a problem to fix my fans...this could be an elegant and practical solution!
Have a great day ★
