A filter that fits a fan - why so difficult

Using phresh filters I’ve found a variety of fans or hoods don’t fit the filter well, there are rivets in the neck of the filter that only allow the fan or flange of the light hood to slide on a little, plus the metal of the filter flange is so heavy that it can’t be squeezed tight with a band. So have to resort to putting in screws and using metal tape. It sucks. What gives? It’s an expensive and great filter but gives me all kind of trouble. Can anyone recommend a better filter or setup that is easier to handle? What am I missing here? I’ve had this issue with some other filters too.
