I was watching bill maher tonight, oddly enough my favorite politically orientated television show, and he had an interesting point at the end. According to the figures he showed on his show, average spending per child in the united states (spending on all programs for children, education, health care all of it) is under $4k per child, as opposed to over $25k per senior citizen.
He then went on to say that 5% of our entire budget goes toward care of senior citizens in the last year of their life, with two thirds of that spent on the last three months.
The reason for this, old people vote, every fucking chance they get.
Not to sound insensitive, but we gotta stop spending so much money on old people, its a bad investment.
