Adding Co2 - Please Help !

Dont exhaust or intake at lights on, problem solved. CO2 is only used at lights on.
Might wanna get a Dehumidifyer if hes not going to exhaust during lights on....... In my close loop system the Humidity rises quickly when lights are on and granted not as much as when lights off but there is still alot of humid air building up and with out the Dehumid. it would be way to high in my sealed room......

One problem I dont have.. I live in the desert my humidity never really gets past 40-50% but then again I only grow 8-12 plants at one time.

Hmm well i bet my temp would go retarted without exhausting im running 2 600 watters in a sealed room.
So 1. Get a dehumidifier
2. Dont exhaust or intake during the day
3. Aircool my lights :)
4. Gets some timers
5. Run co2 !:)

So what kind of temps are ok with co2 running? Like 85 im guessing?

do you run a open loop or closed loop?? If your in an open loop then yes i can see how humidty wouldnt be a problem in a dry area but in a closed loop even if your in the dryest of desserts you should still have humidity because with out an exhaust vent the plant gives off humidity and would fill the room with humid air after awhile....... When i grow in my sealed room in the summer its 30% humidty but i still need my dehumidifyer without it the room gets really humid fast because i have no exhaust....

So im interested in knowing more about your system and how you can get away with no dehumidifyer in a closed loop system?? I would love to unplugg it and save on Pg&e if i could but i have yet to see how i can make the room less humid in a sealed room with no Dehumid..........

yes depending on ambient temps a sealed room with no exhaust will quickly heat up....Most people that run Closed loop use some sort of AC to cool the room since there is no exchange of cool air.....

Yes 85 is perfect of Co2 supplement..... You will also want to consider getting some sort of control panel and a Co2 sensor this way the censor will tell the panel when to pump out the Co2 from the Silenoid that is hooked to the Co2 tank......... Having Co2 is not cheap and if all your other factors arent 100% on point then your better off just spending that money on getting the main factors on point like , Water, temp, nutes , medium, atmospher..... Adding Co2 is the last thing you do once you have profected a grow....But if your still learning and adjusting your grow methods you probably better off with out it......just someting to think about

try to stay under 90 once your lights are vented it should cool down but a dehumidifier adds a lot of heat.
you need to make sure your room is completely sealed first. and you need a co2 test kit to take samples i got one for 14$ and extra test tubes will run you around 50$ once the timer and regulator are set you wont need to test as often.it is important to test co2 levels because over 3000 ppm is dangerous and can be toxic for people and plants . i use a timer with 8 on and off settings.no need for a 600 dollar control panel.

yes hes dosent NEED it but using a control panel and censor is WAY more accurate then trying ti figure out how much Co2 is released in a givin amount of time and then figureing that with the Volume of the room etc etc its not a productive and you will use more Co2 and be less efficent if you do it that way BUT YES you can do it with control panel........

its a simple formula to figure out how much co2 you need. and the glass co2 test tubes work fine. true It will take time to get dialed in. imo the cost of the ppm meter and timer box is not worth the price 600$ is a bit steep. oh ya bud buster you need a strong fan to blow the co2 around because its heavier than normal air and will settle on the floor.

Thanks for the tips ill probbaly be hooking it up in thenext few days to see how it goes. Still working on a dehumidifier tho. Theres not much room left in therrre lol

Pump an hour before the lights turn on! make sure you have a hose with tiny holes around your plants

Was just gunna start a new thread... but looks like I found just the right one. I'm trying to implement CO2 in my grow, I was thinking of filling the entire basement, and simply not exhausting/intaking any air from the basement. I just got my CO2 controller and it seems that the CO2 level wont stay at 1400ppm like I had hoped. There must be all kinds of tiny air leaks up through the ceiling so the CO2 isnt staying in the basement like I was hoping.
ANyways so my question is How does the AC solution work? It doesnt make sense to me because a portable AC unit has an exhaust and pumps air out a window or somewhere outside of the room your cooling.... so goodbye CO2!
so how do I use an AC without pumping away the precious CO2?

To clarify that a bit... I was thinking before I would just use the whole basement as the "sealed room" and let the cold cement walls do all my cooling. Now I realize that won't work unless I want to go through a tank of propane every week, so I need to build a sealed room, but I will need to cool that room. If I use a portable AC to cool the room, it will suck air out of the "sealed" room and take my expensive CO2 enriched air along with it.

Got my hoods aircooled , i was thinking thou im just going to exhaust once an hour , for 5 or so mins at a time and run co2 when it shuts off. How bad will the stink be in and around my room without filtering the air for a hour at a time ? Smell is a big concern. Seems to easy .. Theres gotta be more to it haha

If your room is not 100% sealed when the fan shuts off stink may escape from cracks in the room.

Test tube kit testing will not work with "closed loop", it only works with the timed CO2/venting

Hey dillest, I have some answers for you. You may or may not like them depending on your situation. In terms of air conditioning for a sealed room, you have three main options. From best to worst, mini split, window unit ac, and dual hose portable ac.

The mini split separates the condenser and removes all heat from the room very efficiently. There is no air exhaust since the only thing in the room is the cooling coils. It's the most efficient and quietest form of cooling, but also the most expensive. As a rule of thumb you want 3000 btu's of cooling per 1000 light. Buying and installing a 12000 btu mini split will set you back at least 1500. And this is a job you can NOT do yourself. You need a professional hvac guy.

The best alternative is a window unit. The condenser uses outside air to cool the machine parts and inside stays where it should, inside. There is minimal leaking, mostly around the window itself. It's efficient and effective at the job. The main problem is one, if you're in the basement you probably have few windows and even if you do this will look suspicious. Also, if you're in a cold climate they tend to freeze in winter.

And now I bring you to the cheapest, easiest, and least efficient method of cooling. One I finally decided on for myself. There are two must have amenities if you want a portable air conditioner. First and most importantly, it must be a dual hose system. Secondly, it's very helpful to have a system that exhausts water vapor instead of emptying a bucket of condensation every day. The dual hose system sucks air in to cool the machine, and exhausts it back out with the second hose in a closed loop. There is little to no air transfer, but you do still need a place to exhaust. As long as you seal that well, you're good. It's not very efficient, and quite expensive in electric, but it does the job.

The portable AC is what I've decided upon. Thanks for your well written post Dellistat. I have already been looking for one that costs about 500$ and claims 14000BTU, but also runs at 1500watts.
Its the only option I really have considering I'm in a basement, Hopefully it will just look like a dryer type exhaust(assuming they don't look at it too hard).
Right now I'm just totally winging it with my grow. I have a small closet sized room in the basement that passively exhausts through large holes in the wall into a larger room. burning 1400watts right now with no exhaust no filter no dehumidifier, not AC! ! It's close enough to being sealed right now(blanket as a door lol) that I can run my CO2 burner and keep the ppm pretty close to 1500

But I'm really lucky so far with the weather keeping the basement cool, so my basement acts as an AC for me, but what I cant figure out is... where the hell is all the water going? Its a total mystery to me because it wont clime about 60% RH yet I'm not dumping are anywhere, it all just sits down there in the basement. I got through a gallon of water everyday on the plants so wheres the water going?
I think magic is growing my plants for me lol I'm so lucky

You are fine a lot of growers will do 1200 - 1500 PPM of CO2 some of the expert growers who have been using co2 will do 1200 PPM just to get a extra few days out of the co2, but yeah get a door and weather strip it.

Good thats what most sealed environment growers do. Place your carbon scrubber on the floor and run it 24/7 it helps with odor and plus it scrubs any stale air in your sealed room so you dont really need to exhaust, the plants give off fresh oxygen and just opening and closing your door will help a lot with ventilation.
