AK-47 progress!

I would fear bud rot during flower, but have not sprayed much so far,
so I cannot say for sure.

I bought a humidistat and have many humidifiers from my mushroom work,
but have not added humidity control to my grows yet.

Good luck,

JD

Greetings Earthlings!

Here are the pics for day 26! Overall I am starting to notice the increase in the rate of growth every new node. :D

How close do you have your 250 watt light? You should be keeping it close to around 12 inches or so. You will get faster growth, these are glowing slow. After 10 days they should be 3 to 4 nodes high and then by 21 days they should be 2 feet. This is your first time so just trying to help.

It is a 400watt light and it is 2ft high. And the plant is at 4 nodes already and working on the 5th node :D I was afraid if I brought the light down it would be a lot hotter. But if it will help her grow I will bring it down! Thanks a lot Earthling, for looking out for this here nooblet :) Please continue to hook up the knowledge should you see anything else!

I have some AK47 going right now too and it sound like we are both at the exact same stage. So I'll be following your thread... maybe follow mine along... could be interesting to compare https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/692486-ak-47-hgs-seeds.html I've just topped at 24 days old and I plan to SCROG the best 3 females in 7 gal pots under a pair of 600w's.
She looks like a healthy little baby! I am reluctant to top my little one, do you think she is too small? She already has about 4 nodes and completing here fifth. I feel she is very short though, even though she is growing fast...if that makes sense lol. It is scary but very exciting, this first grow feeling!

Thanks Earthling, for helping this nooblet :)

Well... I topped all mine after the 4th node this time. I've done it after 3 all the other times...

I think it is too late for this node now :( I read many places to top the new growth after it reaches about 1/4"-1/2" of height so I would have to wait for the 6th node...unless I am being too compulsive about this lol. Let's say that I do top it. How many nodes into it should I top for 4 medium colas? Some say 2 nodes some say after one node. Would like to hear your thoughts on the matter. Thanks!

Not sure to be honest. To get four you need to top twice, if I understand you correctly. And when I do that, I do it almost back to back. Top...wait for the plant to recover a bit (if growth slows at all) then top the next node. That will give you four. Note: the second time you top the plant will likely stall for a few days, but don't worry. It will explode after. OR you could FIM. Google that. If you clip in the right spot you will get 4 colas after one clip. I've done it plenty of time. In fact, this round I FIMmed 4 and topped four to watch the difference in growth.

Very cool experiment you are doing, can't wait to observe the difference. I feel like there is too much luck involved with FIMing. I have read a lot of people saying that you must cut 50% of the new growth and others say to cut 80%. Just don't know how to properly gauge it. I have seen some close up shots of supposedly perfect FIMing spots, also they say it is less stressful. I will have to do more research. How long did you let the new growth get before FIMing?

Just snipped before the new leaves opened up. If I guy says FIM 80% and another says FIM at 50% and both work then you can guess that it doesn't matter much where... somewhere in between I guess...

OK so here are the pics for day 30 from seed!!! (technically she is just entering week 3 of veg.) She is only about 5" tall or half a 20oz bottle of water lol I put so many pics because I want you to see every angle of the plant for proper diagnosis. I have dome my research and, except for her height, she seems to be healthy from what I have seen. But I believe my eyes are seeing somethings that my brain may not be comprehending, so I always seek refuge in the advise of the professionals :)

Enjoy!

Greetings Earthlings!

I have been doing some digging and many people say that I can top my little girl, AND use that top as a clone! This is of course awesome as I can flower two shorties simultaneously! I have also read that
cloning the main stalk may lead to stem rot because of the increased period of time it takes to root.

After dipping it in a rooting agent I will trim the leaves. I was thinking of taking her top, putting it in a small black plastic cup filled with R/O water. Then I will take a bigger, gray cup and poke a hole on the bottom, a little wider then the stem. Flip the cup over and use it as a dome and put the clone in with the leaves hanging out of the cup (the hole is a little bit bigger than the stem so the rooting agent does not smear off) and then keep misting her daily.submerge the stem about 1" into the water. I will then cut it at a 45 degree angle in the water so that any air pockets are gone from the initial transplant. I will keep her a lot further away from the lights so it only gets bounce light. Room is warm enough to keep her humid.

My question is would this even work? Has anyone had any success with cloning the main stem? I would like to know as my topping day is approaching fast

I have two nodes with 5 leaflets. I am thinking after the next node (6th true node) fully develops, I would top her at the 3rd true node, which is the node with my first 5 leaflets! Than I will attempt to clone that topped main stalk and then top the clone later on and flower both a week later. The clone should root because the stem is still young and not at all woody right?

20130811_135311.jpg20130811_135338.jpg

People say to remove the branches completely and only keep the trimmed leaves of the top of the clone, but I would think this to be counter productive as all the leaves aid in the transfer of energy, which is good for roots right? What perspective would you fellow Earthlings offer?

Thanks again for your constant support even if not on my thread I have read TOO MANY threads so you all have helped me indirectly.

Greetings!

Ok so here are the pics of day 34!

Firstly, there is a problem that I saw yesterday before I gave her her weekly feeding. Everything looks great except for this one leaflet!

20130813_202701.jpg

I feel like this because of this the branch growth on that node is growing slower than the other as shown.

I will admit I accidentally dropped my measuring tape on her 3 days ago!!! I hope that didn't cause this, but the brown mark did indeed appear after the incident
I am only concerned because this is the node I intend to top! We shall see how it develops.

On the bright side My 6th true node now has 7 leaflets!

I am loving her stem! All of those designs look amazing, unless they are negative signs haha!

Some pics of her node growth...

Well here they are! Like I said I am loving everything except that scar. I researched everywhere and I found that it may be one of many symptoms: Light/heat damage, boron deficiency, calcium deficiency, or phosphorous deficiency. Now that's a lot of stuff but I have narrowed it down to these symptoms. With your perspectives I aim to narrow it down further, hopefully to one.

Thanks in advance my fellow Earthlings!

When you top your plants from seed, use the Uncle Ben's technique to get 4 tops with 1 snip. I do it all the time and it works just fine.

Don't worry about that scar, it happens (especially on the lower, older leaves), but if it gets excessive, and new growth starts to suffer, then its something to be concerned with. Otherwise, if the plant looks and feels healthy, then keep doing what your doing.

Good Luck!! I am also growing an AK47 right now and she is in her second week of flower.. Stretch has pretty much come to an end, and she is budding up nicely.

Rusty: I've got some AK47 going right now too. is what I've been hearing about the AK stretch been true in your case? I heard it goes pretty wild. And Sunni...looking good and healthy. I have a plant that started out with some brown, rusty spots when all the others didn't. So far they haven't carried on upwards...just genes I guess...

No the stretch was pretty basic,, I am at the 2 week mark today, and the stretch is pretty much over.. Nothing to write home about, and Impressed with the Budding so far.

Good luck!!

Thank you Rusty Shakelford and Gquebed for taking time to observe and give your wisdom. Things have turned out worse as you said Rusty. :(

In only 2 days she has shown signs of more and more damage. I really think it is heat damage because she looks burnt but all symptoms that I mentioned look the same. I watered her this morning. after freaking out lol this is what she looks like.

20130815_215435.jpg20130815_215455.jpg20130815_215510.jpg20130815_215600.jpg

But her top growth looks fine. I am just worried if they will suffer the same fate.

20130815_215631.jpg

And also the branch growth hasn't stopped. And they look fine also. I am again worried if the brown spots will effect their growth (obviously it will, but to what extent?). And I don't even know if topping is an option now that those leaflets are apparently sick.

20130815_215650.jpg20130815_215725.jpg

Also as you can see, the first and second true nodes (3 leaflets) have turned white for some reason, but I think those are just getting old...that or not enough iron or magnesium. I do not think the fertilizer I am using has any micro nutrients so it maybe that.

20130815_215530.jpg

Well that's my perdicament. She is not only speaking to me but yelling for help and I do not understand her! Can one of you humble folks grant me some perspective? Should I post more pics? My battery was too low for flash but it is charged now. Let me know and thanks in advance Earthlings!

really nice looking girl you have, makes me miss growing indoor. After you top, you should get rid of some of those fan leaves, and tie her down a bit and that will get your branches going. Go ahead and top since you have the gel and you are all set to do it anyway. That looks just like heat damage, I have never used a HID I only used CFL, and they were always 4 inches away, so I'm no help there. Do you have a fan or something circulating the air? I don't see one (I'm kinda stoned dont wanna go back and read again lol)
