I used cfls my first grow and was very disappointed. They vegged fine under them but the flowering was very weak.

My last grow I had a 2x2 foot closet space. I grew 5 plants under a 250W HPS without any heat issues. I just had a fan extracting hot air back into my room. This gave much better results. Didn't mess with ballasts and all that, just got the hydrofarm light with the ballast, reflector and bulb in one package. It's much less headache to position 1 big light than constantly adjusting 10 or 15 CFLs all around your plants. Just my opinion.

That does seem a lot less of a hassle I kno, but Im looking for efficient n quality. If a 250w hps is gonna cost a shit load not trying to do it. At first I stated "I just want the eAsiest setup, cheapest price, for highest efficiency.." idk y I quoted it wasn't actually exactly what I said, but it was what I was trying to get at

you can set up T5HO for $250 for all stages or just T5 for like $100 for some shwanky plants with airy buds. But if you can muster $400 you're talkin you can pick up proper fan, reflector, light combo (400w or up for that space) or a 250hps and a 150mh and split it into chambers I donno what your plan is.

That's what I'm trying to get at, idk what I wan to do cuz I don't know what to do.. $250 sounds nice. Like 300$ on the setup I would prefer but if u got some crack solution for me for $400 that'd b awesome.. That's what I'm basically Asking people for, to build my closet lol. U got a detailed description of something I could do that would take care of everything that'd b my ultimate goal in posting on this forum.. Well that and diagnoses of any and all problems that occur throughout the grow process

My dude You'll be fine with the eight or so cfls in that space. I'll focus on the fact that you said that you want to harvest every two months and realistically the only way I see that happenin is you somehow dividing your closet in two so you can have a veg room and a flower room. If you could pull that off and get some clones poppin eventually, you could damn near have a perpetual harvest.

Recently finished a similar size closet grow. Here's what I used. Not that pricey at all:

http://htgsupply.com/growlights.asp?categoryID=1&subcategoryID=155&typeID=84

This light will outperform the cfls and will run you less than all the cfls you would have to pick up to get even close results (if ur picking up like 7 cfls for $10 a pop, you're better off with this light, no doubt)(hardly touches your electric bill too).

Pic 1) The power strip can be picked up at walmart (about $6). The 6 vegging cfls can be purchased there too for cheap (forgot the price). The Y-adapters are also Walmart for about $1.

It was a hydro set up with only 1 lowryder 2 that made it but the 2nd pic was the result (over 3 oz dry).

Just put some reflective paint/material in there to maximize lighting.

All this for under $300 EASILY. Then I would recommend making a DIY rubbermaid bubbler (https://www.rollitup.org/do-yourself/97378-diy-3-gallon-rubbermaid-dwc.html) for dirt cheap. And then get the cheapest fan you can find (Walmart...again).

And BOOM! You've got yourself a cheapo hydro system that's easy to take care of, inexpensive, and will provide you some serious results (depending on nutes...I used Fox Farm).

Hope this helps.

I'm in a similar situation as you. Doing my first time grow at the moment. I started off on T5's that fit in my closet. The plants outgrew the space, so I bought a 2x2 foot T5 Daylights. They're a little slow, but fine for veging, but as people have mentioned in here, they suck for flowering.

So I started researching Flowering. There's no way T5's can be used for even a semi-decent bud.

So I looked around, and around, and around. General rule, more lumens, the better. Wanting to do it properly, I was after a MH/HPS setup, so I could get rid of the T5's totally.

This lead me to: http://www.specialty-lights.com/902480.htm.

That's 400W, more than enough to get a few really nice plants veging and flowering strong, heavy, and fast.

Lumens have gone from 4,000 to 55,000

The Ballast is separate, so there'll be less heat in the closet. Couple that with the a small bit of ducting a fan, and some nutes, and for about $400 you'll have EVERYTHING you need.

I'd suggest you not repeat my mistakes. If you want to go cheap/clean as possible, get a MH/HPS 250w onboard ballast setup, and you probably won't need any ducting.

The cost difference between 250w and 400w is minor, but the output and growth difference is huge.

I have about the same grow space to work with. Smaller actually. About 2ft x 3ft. I could have done it a lot cheaper but I never fully thought it out as I was going along and ended up spending a shitload more. I got a 20x36in grow tent from HTG. Im sure you could find one that is closet to your max size tho.

i grow in my bedroom, but in my wardrobe, its about 3ft tall, 3.5ft wide and 2ft deep. i have one T5 and im using a 150w envirogrow CFL. dont want too much heat obv.

You're not going to be able to flower with that.

A 250w HPS will work without anything externally visible. I'd be going at least here, knowing what I know.

If you're growing more than 4 plants, a 400w HPS with remote ballast/aircooling will be even better again.

Oh the reason I didn't go with HTG is I was reading here and cannabis.com, and a few other sites on the internet that found the support AMAZING, but there was frequent complaints on multiple people that their ballasts weren't working, or they were noisy. The price point in my mind, was sounding too good to be true. The more I read, the more it appeared to be the case. I think in around 5 different topics over the past 2 years, with around 10-15 replies per topic (aka 50-75 posts), only 1 or 2 had good stories that deal with resolution. No one was backing up the claims saying they were solid.....

Happy growing either way :)

Should work. Even better than a fan pointing downwards is an inline fan taking heat off the shell/light. The MH/HPS lights get hot. If you're able to keep the closet open for airflow, an inline fan will do the job perfectly.

It'll take the heat off the light and remove it from the area around your plants.

http://www.specialty-lights.com/902480.html for MH/HPS combo + http://www.specialty-lights.com/736655.html as the fan to take the heat off the light == win!

I've not grown these myself, but from all the reading I've done that's the perfect setup in terms of size/light/#. Top out to keep the high down as well as double/quad the number of main cola's and you've got win!

Whatever works best for you man I was just offering a basic common sense solution without going into too much detail. Anyway if you do have access to another closet I'd probably go with that. Then crowding wont be an issue.
