Why does ever other thread turn into some kind of hating here? Cmon guys aren't we all adults.

To the Op maybe you can get a good yield topping an auto but it has been tried before and a lot of good growers are telling you no.
That being said have fun with it.

I hear you but Unkle Ben says it can be done so i have no reason to doubt him as he is one of the most reliable people on here and probably any other website.

For those not familiar with this technique you top roughly 1cm above the second true node (not the cotyledon), and topping is NOT stressful to plants it is simply redirecting auxin hormones.

From what i read autos grow really fast so plant should recover in no time. Ill do one to test.
i use this technique & as u say it works great. i follow his methods and have tried both 2&4 colas. the only thing i don't do is wait until they get as tall as he recommended.
because they are autos (northern lights) i top as early as 7 days and always get great results. topping that early is not for the faint of heart. GL

Although the common auto doesn't respond well to topping as photoperiod strains do, there are in existence autos called Super Autos. Super Autos mature up or past 100 days, are Sativa dominant and get LARGE. Breeder descriptions' for these Super Autos direct growers to topping the plant to obtain multiple colas and keep the size down. While many of you reading this are aware of Super Autos, I hope this helped clear the air a bit.

Let's show these other sites what we are made of here and how Rollituppers do. This Auto section is tiny so let's all share information, not hate.

LST = multiple cola's

spyder at day 47 tied down, and she went another 50 days
even the sativa dominent auto's only have a select life cycle why not take advantage.

Thanks for this reply, this was the kind info i was looking for on my auto/topping research before a bunch of trolls jumped on the bus.

Sweet! what size is the large rockwool block under the smaller block?, awesome size, i take it that when the roots appeared from the bottom of the smaller block it was just a case of placing it on a larger block?

what's up budman, and thanks for the compliments. I use a 4" to start and you guessed it once the roots start showing place it on top of the bottom block which is a 6" block. In order for me to reach the same plant size in soil I needed about five gallons, and the rockwool is a little over 1 gallon volume. peace and good luck!

So, a month later, and all the drama, was the plant ever topped? Just curious, have a auto myself, just broke ground. If topped, how is the plant doing?

i accidently topped one of my autos thinking it was a reg but that turned out well and yielded an extra couple of grams compared to my other ones of the same strain
