aquaponic/bubbleponic begginer needs help

hi, i dont know much about hydro growing but iv read up on bubbleponics and aquaponics, was wondering if my set up would actually work or if im wasting my time. i recently bought a self cleaning fish tank where you just pour water into the top and the excess dirty water flows out a spout on the side of the aquarium. was wondering if i could fill a netpot with some sort of medium and use the dirty fish water for the water in my bubbleponics reservoir? like it would be a substitute for buying nutes, and it seems to work with aquaponics? insight please?

anybody? anything at all?

I have grown a whole lot of aquaponics.. still am.. but never MJ.

I bet it would work.. you might need to supplement some food here and there.

It will greatly depends on the fish (how much waste, the bacteria population (makes the poop food), and the need of the plants..

Example, comet goldfish don't produce enough waste to produce tons of cucumbers.. But koi totally will,

You would need a tank that is stocked heavily with fish that produce lots of waste. basically. also, you need a bacteria population.. likely the rocks in your tank are holding a bit of bacteria.. maybe throw in a few sponges.

The problem I would see with this setup would be the likelihood of the introduction of bacteria and or contaminants into the water. Namely ammonia. I've been using bubbleponics for years and the trick is basically a sterile solution. Things like salts, bacteria, and the aforementioned ammonia can cause major problems and even plant death. If you want to keep your bubbleponics cheap and work well go with the basics Lucas formula and you can't go wrong. I have helped several friends set up bubbleponics and Lucas formula is the best I've found for newbies and the most forgiving. Soil has enzymes, bacteria, and microbes to break down these harmful elements. Water does not

I won't say that it can't work, its just that it be really hard and less than stellar results.

Nutrients are cheap. Don't buy into the hype that you need all these additives or any at all. If you choose Lucas formula, 2 bottles of of general hydro are cheap and go a long ways.

If you really want to be cheap you could mix your own or buy dry salts that are mixed. But for something so small it'd be a waste of time.

im just into micro/ stealth grows at the moment seeing as my state has some pretty harsh laws and i cant grow openly, just wondering if my theory would work, ill guess ill be using general hydroponics nutes, and coco coir. is it necessary for a drip ring with bubbleponics?

First let me say PorterRockwell is a troll that posts random ass pictures to anything he think is a stupid question. You're gonna see a lot more of him.
But everyone starts somewhere.

I would say dont do it, you're going to run into a lot more problems.

For aquaponics you need a biofilter to break nitrites > nitrates for plants to use. You cant just jdump dirty fish water into a res like you would if you were growing in an organic soil. Even if you had it set up cannabis needs alot of P & K in flowering which is not produced by fish waste

Hello SLIMSMOKEY420,
I have been doing DW aquaponics for a while now and I say yes go grow...If you read my journal I also love my dirty water and not worry about being so sterile and clean with everything. In nature plants clean dirty water by living off the waste of fish and other plants so why wouldn't it work for indoor grows? Look up nitrates and nitrites where fish waste is converted feeding your plants. I supplement with MiracleGrow for some of the trace minerals. I would make sure that there is some clean fish water is mixed in to not choke the roots. Something about clean water holding more air than dirty water. Too stoned here and I'm not sure if any of this makes any sense. lol
When I grow DW I make sure some parts of the roots are not submerged in the water giving the roots air. The plant drowns and dies if the entire root system is submerged. I use Rockwool cubes submerging 1/4 to 1/2 of the cube in net pots adding a lava rock or more Rockwool on the bottom of net pot to raise and keep the cube above the water line.
Happy growing,
Marc (::weed::dunce::wall:bongsmilieo_O:roll:
